SL Crashes since update: Question

Since the last update, we've been crashing left and right. Generally SL freezes up entirely, requiring a shutdown of the entire system to restart it.

In between, we also discovered a damaged video card and had it replaced with an improved one. GeForce8500GT.

The card makes no difference. We continue to crash and freeze. We recently updated the drivers as well. Occasionally the DSL also gets knocked offline, only when playing SL. Doesn't happen with surfing or using SWG or other online games.

I have cleared cache multiple times, uninstalled and reinstalled, all to no avail. Any other suggestions?

I've found the best fix generally for this issue is to use a bug-free version of SL. Let me know when you find one, and then we can both get rich.

I've found it can freeze now and then though after 30 seconds of heavy hard drive activity it frees up again. This has been since the last two updates. How do you roll back?

Your HD thrashes are propbably due to 1) Too small a HD to support the SL cache and the OS cache (especially if set to 'let the OS decide'). 2) You have insuffcient system ram (lower than 512mb) which may be still shared with the MB GPU (guessing thats what you had), that will need turning off in the Bios.

The disconnecting DSL line could mean that 1) Your router is getting too hot and resetting (had same problem myself). 2) Your connection to the router (USB or Ethernet) has a dodgy connection or the internal card/MB chip is becoming too hot and breaking down, try cleaning out the vents and check internal fans.

Overall, remove all traces of SL from your system, defragment your HD, run a registery cleaner and reinstall a FRESH copy. Check all your drivers are updated, including those for your network card, MB etc.

Try adding your system specs on the forums, so we can get a better idea of how to assist you.

Its really getting to the point where releases are getting less and less stable. I understand we are going into new land with dev things we never had before. But the first look client is a total loss. the 1.17.3 is much more stable and more does not crash on Q like the first look client. I sure hope the coders get things togther soon.

I'm experiencing the same issues as mentioned above, only with cable rather than DSL. Every so often, SL will freeze up and my network connectivity will drop across the board. In about 30 seconds, I will be booted from SL due to the lack of connectivity. If I leave SL connected, it will stay that way, no network connectivity. Best part is, from my other system as well...at the same time. The Cable modem or router are essentially barfing. I play on a laptop thru wireless, the other system is a wired desktop. Eventually, when I close SL...about 10 seconds later my network connectivity returns, and things go backto normal...on both systems.

Hiya this is what I put in my computer when I thought it was a graphical issue and I used the drivers with the card on the cdrom in the box (didn't update them afterwards) and it works well (never crash) Not sure if this wil help you or not but its not a graphics card issue as replacing my graphics card with this one cured my graphics crashing problems (streaming textures etc it was very very bad) as an aside I bought it from nvidia so its 100% nvidia. I did this to avoid anything that might be cause due to some manufacturer slightly changing something or other so its "pure" hehe if this makes any sense :)

Freezing constantly here all of a sudden, as of 3 weeks ago! When I freeze, it is like for 3 to 5 mins and I cannot move, cannot type in chat or Im to even let my friends know. When i hit the tab where the quit is, it takes forever to open and then hangs when i choose quit. Same thing with just clicking the X. Also, the recent purchases/items folder is empty even when i have just purchased an item...
Can ANYONE please please help? I have a GIG n a half on an emachines running Win XP thru cable and graphics driver is an ATI Radeon 9250, largest that will go into my puter I'm told. My bandwidth in game is at 1500, cache at 600 and draw distance is set at 96. Someone please help cuz filing a ticket with the Lindens was a waste of my time also!! This is getting sooo frustrating! I can barely stay in game 5 mins without this freezing. Have also been crashing since update...

sometimes, anti-virus/anti-spyware app updating or scanning can cause your system to "freeze" or a badly-scripted website if you are multitasking.
