Hair attached to nose

Why are some of my hairstyles attached to my nose?

When attached to my nose the hair appears normally on my head, however when I put on some nose jewelry the hair disappears (I go bald!) and the jewel appears correctly on my nose. So I can't wear the hair and nose jewels simultaneously.

Thanks for any ideas.

I hate when this happens. Instead of wearing your jewels, simply go to attach and find un used spaces to place them. That would be the easiest. You could always do a edit, and attach to your skull and physiclly move your hair so that it fits perfectly, but that way bums me out.

hehe
sorry...just having a giggle at your expense. :-)

My guess is that whoever made that hair wanted to give you the option of perhaps wearing a hat or attaching something else onto the top of your head.

You can change this if you want but you wil most likely need to reposition the hair once you do. It will require you to open up an edit box and edit the position of your hair once you place it on your head.

Still interested? ok...continuing.

Remove your hair.
Find it in your inventory and right click on it, and have it attach to head instead of attach to nose.
When it attaches to your head now, it will most likely be floating high over your head...thats because the positioning for it was originally for your nose.

Open up an edit box by right clicking on your hair and choosing edit. You should now see 3 different colored arrows on your hair with each arrow being double-ended. By clicking on the arrow that is pointing in the direction that you want to move your hair, you can drag the hair into the exact position that you like. once you get it where you want, close the edit box and you're done.

Now whenever you "wear" that hair, it will always go to that position.

Yep, swapping out the attachment slots is a pretty sensible idea in a lot of cases- especially if you feel somewhat comfortable with moving prims around. It's easy to run out of head attachment points =/ For the record, nose is *also* the traditional attachment point for prim eyelashes. So if you have eyelashes (pretty popular) hair (traditionally on skull) and two earrings you've got the chin and mouth left for acessories. Technically you could attach to the eyes- by the eye attachment points move with your eyeballs so it's pretty bad for most uses.

Unless you TP ....... in which case it could go ... well..... somewhere else :p

Seriously though, excellent instructions from Markubis..can only add that it helps if you put yourself on a posestand while editing your hair, possibly even make a copy in your inventory before you edit it if you can. The latter just in case you get something wrong.

On another but vaguely related note....... : imho it would be very useful if there was a decription in the name of attachments or a note that said where they attach to. that way you could figure out if there was a possible conflict before you end up in a public space without hair.

You are best off making a copy of the hair first before you start anything, just in case, and since the attachment point it used originally might be needed in future.

an excellent suggestion by markubis. i would add however that most hair is copy, and the only copy that will be 'fixed' is the one on your head. so you should delete every other copy of that hair from your inventory.

I buy extra hair usually and attach it to my back...one on each shoulder. :-)

and yes, a pose stand is always a wise choice when editing.

i always buy extra hair... because i'm an addict :-))

re pose stand: or jump on one of the gazillion posestands scattered around hair and other shops.

oh and on the copy front... i rename the wig i'm editing before i change anything at all and keep the original safely tucked away in the back of the drawer just in case. Whatever happens, not losing my hair!!

Did i mention i'm an addict :D

Caress, this just happened to me yesterday. I bought a lovely new style that comes in two parts, the main hair and a bang.

I guess the maker does it that way to make it easier to reposition the hair on different sized heads, but it does take up an extra attach point that I wanted to get back. Step by step, here's what I did:

1. Make a copy of the hair and bang objects. Give them new names, and/or save them to a new folder so you don't get them mixed up with the originals.

2. Hop on a pose stand, and wear just the original bang.

3. Rez the copied bang on the ground, and then reposition it on your head, using the origninal bang as a guide. You can take the original bang on and off repeatedly to keep from selecting it by mistake when you move the new one.

4. Repeat the above process for the main hairpiece.

5. Put the original hair back in your Inventory, leaving only the new bang and hair, in their proper positions.

6. Select both objects. Go to the Tools/Link menu. If the objects fail to link, you might have to fiddle a bit with their positions, or even change their size. You can change it back later.

7. Once the hair and bang are linked, you can attach the completed wig to your skull attach point. Voila! Your nose is clear again! Wait...that didn't come out right...
