Classifieds heads up.

Just a heads up, I'm doing a bit of house cleaning in the classifieds, so if your post wasn't where it was before or it's suddenly been merged with it's identical brethren, it was me trying to make some order of the chaos. And just a reminder, you shouldn't be cross posting in the classifieds forum. The most egregious cross posters are being tagged for LR too.

You see I wrote this great greasemonkey script that makes merging and moving threads alot easier. Merging 10 posts takes forever on the old interface (you have to copy and paste urls, and you can only merge two threads at a time), this just requires a few mouse clicks.

This is off-topic for the SL forums. This forum isn't for general discussion; there are many Resident Sites where this discussion is appropriate — Resident Answers is for Resident-to-Resident help. I'll close this thread...

So how come you have the ability to do that, if you aren't a Linden?

When can we see similar 'cleanup' on events? Many of us have volunteered to spend a little time clearing them up and been ignored.

Strife explained how he did it, he wrote a Greasemonkey script. Greasemonkey injects Javascript code into the the webpages he views, in this case when he views the SL forums. The added Javascript causes him to see a modified version of the forum page with some options for manipulating threads added. Why he can do it is that he is a forum moderator and he knows Greasemonkey scripting.

Just to clarify, for those who are new, I'm one of the Resident Moderators. It's a volunteer position. The single perk of the position is being able to do good and make the forums a better place (the power is not a perk, if I miss use it people jump on me). The powers granted are: Moving/Coping Threads, Merging/Splitting Threads, Closing/Opening Threads, Stickying Threads. We cannot edit content. We do not evaporate (delete) threads (it's against the standard). We rarely Merge or Split threads, Merging is currently only used to cleanup cross-posting.

The script I have written doesn't give me any new powers, just makes using them easier. Specifically it makes merging large quantities of threads by a single user easier. I wrote it because of how tedious it was to merge cross-posted threads. There are still a few kinks to be worked out of it.

If someone breaks a rule - for instance disclosure - that thread merely gets locked from participation, even though the possibly false allegation remains public (and searchable?) for all time.

It seems like a fairly easy way of breaking the rules and getting the wanted result (exposure), without much of a penalty (locking of the thread doesn't really impact exposure of it) unless I'm missing something obvious .

I agree with Kitty...the people named in those threads are still potentially being slandered. You should at least be able to edit out the identifying information.

Those threads typically get sent along to Linden Review for editing. Sometimes they do get deleted.

The ResMods work in conjunction with Linden Review. LR handles everything that we can't, when a thread or person needs additional attention we submit it for Linden Review. Linden Review can edit and delete posts, additionally they can warn, suspend or ban people. The ResMods are rarely told and not involved in the process of punishing users. The punishment system is tiered, the more severe punishments reserved for the repeat offenders.
