How is streaming audio and video handled when there is more than one tenant on a piece of property. Does it just consist of dueling tuners or is there a way to listen/watch to 2 different things? Thanks

There's no way to watch two different video streams on the same parcel. The workaround would be to bust the parcel into two (or more) parcels, each with it's own media texture.

There is a way. Talk to AWM Mars. He has a system that apparently does this.

(Disclaimer: I am no way affiliated but have seen him mention it in here before)

Hi,

The Silver Stream Network can support multi media screen/players in any parcel. Version one (called the Proximity Server) was a parcel media server and could control upto 8 media streams into a single parcel (7 by the system and 1 standard).

Version two (Silver Stream) controls upto 30+ screen/controllers over a SIM, irrespective of any parcelling and can coexist with existing media systems. It is not restricted by parcels, nor does it need them to play different media streams. Once a Silver Stream Server (single prim box) is placed somewhere on a SIM, it creates a media network which each screen/player can link to, therefore not requiring 'regions/parcels' to seperate media channels.

Another system available will allow upto 6 media streams, showing/playing on six screens all at the same time. You can use movie, TV, 2D pics, and sound all at the same time :) .

Both technologies are available ingame right now, and have been for months. The Proximity Server system won an award at the International Technology Expo 2007.

Thanks for the Silver Stream info, looks very promising....grabbed it from SL Exchange. I also found a tuner to try (Slipstream) that allows for multiple streams. I knew there had to be some technology out there. Thanks all.

You can buy modded and non-mod versions of the Silver Stream screens/player from EML-Entertainments. The system is showcased on the 2nd floor and the stock is held on the 1st floor. Don't forget to pick up a sever for 5L$ and the installation manual from the front of the store. Any problems, IM me, although I do offer an installation service. If you want to buy in bulk (10+ screens) IM me first as I'm offering a deal.

Hi,

thanks for the reply. I'm still looking for a plot to put down on but will probably go for around 10 of them, so will contact you first.

How many prims do each of these consume?

Thanks

Hi,
We supply 2 types of screen/players combination units, Modded and UnModded. UnModded are a basic unit consisting of 7 prims. The Modded versions range from 11 to 13 prims each.

Might be good, if you contact me ingame and I can show you a fully working system. In EML-Entertainments we have 6 screens setup in a single parcel and at our sister company WBA-Advertising, we have 2 parcels, 8 screens in one and 4 in an ajoining one, although parcelling is irrelevant, they will work even if a screen is half and half across a parcel.

Each screen/player combination unit has its own playlist, so from a potential of a maximum of 120+ urls in a notecard (depending on maximum characters that a NC can hold) and around 30+ screen/player units usable in a SIM, you can control around 3,500 urls :D . Oh, and you don't need to have media permissions for any SIM/Land or Parcel to use them, which is great for rented housing. Each playlist is fully configurable and you can enter any url, pointing at the Internet, that has compatible media (Movies, Pictures etc).

the easy way would be to just 'chop' your land into smaller sections, each section can have its own media music / media movie stream in it.

stand over here for 80's music, stand over here for trance :)

Parcelling only works for media on a single plain, you can't parcel in height layers, hence why the Silver Stream is so useful for anyone with more than a single storey structure. In any event, would you seriously want to parcel off every ground floor room in a building just so you can play a movie in each room?
Save yourself the hasstle, get out and enjoy SL, not make it more complicated just for the sake of it. The Silver Stream Screen/Players start at 600L$ each.

How does this Silver Stream thing *work*, AWM? Is there somewhere it's described? Not to make this into a Products Offered or Scripting Tips thread, but since reading this thread I've been looking for loopholes in llParcelMediaCommandList and trying to glean some hints from the various websites associated with this product, but so far can only make vague, hypothetical hand-waving about a webserver doing avatar-specific mapping of the parcel media URL to different streams upon connection... which seems like it might work, but might be completely wrong.

(Disclaimer: This is just idle curiousity, since I use the Linux viewer.)
