Worthlessness of the premium membership..

I thought it would be nice to support Second Life by purchasing a premium membership but my motives weren't totally altruistic, I was also interested in purchasing a little plot of land at the rates described in the premium membership literature.

Sadly, repeated attempts (read e-mails) to find anyone within the Linden family to point me to the location of these plots of land have gone unanswered and the SL search engine happens to be one of the worst pieces of tripe being perpetuated on the citizens of Second Life. There is no way it seems to filter out the pornography and the land whores, those individuals who have through automated technology snap up cheap land and then resell is at an considerably higher fee, and actually produce a search that has any sense of relevance to the query.

I would like to see SL team up with Google or some other search engine company which would allow for boolean searches that might produce more relative query results rather then the useless crap currently yielded.

If someone could point me to where these alleged plots of land exist, I would be very appreciative.

PS. If a thread exists which already answers my question, my humble apologies. I just presumed like the in Second Life, searching the forums would be equally useless and just return a bunch of irrelevant, nonsensical junk (read porn and threads about sex).

If you're talking about First Land, that program was discontinued in February.

search / land

pull down menu's filter for 'only mainland' and then under that you can filter for 'only pg' or 'only mature' land

then tick the box next to 'size' and type in '512' and hit search


then you will only see land for sale on mainland that is in pg land and the size you wanted to buy.

Just as a follow up, no I don't have a problem with pornography or sex in Second Life. My only problem with either is when it's shoved in my face when I do a search about something seemingly innocuous and not related to either. And yes, I have the mature content check box, not checked.

My only real problem with sex in Second Life are the idiots, the dolts, the absolutely unmitigated losers, who visit some of these sex clubs, where girls are in position but clearly on away! You do realize you might as well be humping a pillow because there is no one live on the other end. I've seen these retards, talking dirty, trashy and the girls have an automated bot system that responds with canned naughtiness. Are you pathetic punks really getting your rocks off?

For the love of the Kama Sutra, please tell me the world isn't really populated with such worthless individuals. If this world is truly populated with such people, agree with me that we must begin a global euthanizing program to end the potential propagation of this subset of human, Homo Stupido.

Really, what someone needs to do is create a fully functional, menu driven, realistic female sex bot, one that looks, walks, respond to commands and general quires. You could have the bot attach to the user (like some of the pets in SL) and follow it's master around. Dress your female bot how you wish, treat her dirty, treat her nice, sex her up wherever you like (remember – she has a comprehensive menu drive sex engine). You could include a penis that when it actually enters your sex bot, you don't see it come out of the back of the head, stomach or back.

There is your million Linden idea of the day, now someone run with it.

I am sure that in the 3-4 months you have been in SL, you have found a little more than sex .... unless of course that's what you look for


As for the land, first land finished a while ago. Standard land prices have gone down, so you can buy a small plot for a reasonable amount, or rent on an island

made me about 400 to 800 a month, off 10 or so IRC bots i wrote in QuickBasic

And if you rent on an island, you don't need to be Premium.

That's in regard to monthly tier, not the price of the land itself. Tier can be thought of as maintenance costs...you don't pay any on the first 512m.

Thank you for the clarification, would have been easy for someone within Linden to answer the question. And yes, I have several pieces of land rented on a private Sim, just thought I might get something I could rent on the main land, fix it up and rent it out.

I have three 512 plots next to each other in Oathkeeper if youre interested. They are priced at $5400 each ( I think its cheap, but I could be wrong )

I wanted to add three more reasons to keep a premium member ship:

1) Access to live chat and a ticket support based help system. If you are a basic level member, you can only get help for the most egrarious of problems.
2) The current L$300/week stipend is worth $L1200/month or US$4.45 (just under half the membership cost).
3) I recently looked at renting and you can donate your free tier to several land groups in exchange for L$250 - L$400 off your rent (seriously) from a group that allows tier donations. That's an additonal US$0.90 - US$1.50 or so makeing it come close to breaking even with the US$9.99 monthly fee.

So even if you do not want to pay a tier price and rent, the basic account will help you resolve small and medium issues, provide a small source of L$ and, as time goes on and the Lindons restrict free accounts more, more ability to move about the game.
