Hi all, I need your help and advice. Here is my problem. I made a new group called The Christian Connection. I chose the name with the understanding that if anyone did a search for the word "Christian" in the groups, or all..........that my group would show up. Last night I did this search.........and my group did not show up. (if someone is in SL now, could they do a search "Christian" And see if it still doesn't show up for me....Pretty please" The only way I was able to get my group to show up..........was to type out the name "The" in front of Christian. I'm hoping this was just a search bug. If not, can I change my groups name to take out 'the'. Otherwise, no one is every going to find my group.......not many will search for The Christian...... Any help or advice is appreciated .........thanks

Not a bug unfortunately. A few months back, Linden Labs changed the way the serch function works for Classifieds and Groups I believe, making it so only the first word was checked. This was done to help reduce database load if I recall correctly. Also, as far as I am aware, there is no way to change the name of a group once created. Sorry. I ran you search, as as you said, it shows up if you type "The Christian", but as I said...this is no bug.

Not quite. It will check beyond the first word, but it always starts at the beginning. If you're searching for groups, then doing two separate searches can help, e.g. search for SomeTopic and The SomeTopic. From: someone This was done to help reduce database load if I recall correctly. Perhaps, but place search is different. For place searches, it will find the word anywhere, but it must be exact. So you often still need to do two separate searches, e.g. one for clothes and a second for clothing. People search is the same as group search, only worse. For people search, if you come up with more than 100 names, you'll get them in batches of 100. Each batch will be in alphabetical order, but separate batches won't be. So if you search for "John D", you might see "John Dinkins" followed by "John Dougherty" on the first page, but John Doe might be on the second page. (It's possible groups work the same way, but I don't remember ever doing a group search that returned that many names.)

Groups do not search through the keywords in the charter?
Been a lil while since I searched on groups -
It seems to me they should.

If you're searching for groups, then doing two separate searches can help, e.g. search for SomeTopic and The SomeTopic. Ummmm...if you have to do two seperate searches and add "The" at the beginning, then what I said is true. The search function searches the first word of each Group for the first word you entered. When in world go to groups and perform the following seaches. High School High Kindly Kindly High Neither "High" or "High School" returrn any results for any of the Kindly High School groups...because "High" is not the first word in any of the group names. The Group search function checks the first word you type in against the first word of all group names. Try it for yourself. (All Kindly groups have the word High as the second word in the group title) From: someone Perhaps, but place search is different. Yes....search places and search people are different...but I never said anything about search places or search people. I do admit to being wrong about classifieds though. Search classifieds does indeed search the entire thing. My apologies.

From: Bree Giffen No they don't. I just tried it. k - then they should fix this. Its stupid to reuire people to put the subject of their group as the first word in the group name to get noticed.
