As far as I know, private island owners can reclaim land at any point in time from a renter.

Yes. If you own a private island, you can always claim the land back from the existing owner. When you open up the About Land window on a parcel on an island you own, the button that normally says Abandon Land instead says Reclaim Land. Click on that and the land immediately becomes yours. (Be careful - you are instantly responsible for the prims.)

Reclaim button in 'about land' tab. Click that, land is yours again. Doesn't affect your tier or anything - you are paying tier for the whole island no matter what, anyway. Well, unless you check 'owner makes contribution with deed' which then causes a cascade of Company tier charges in addition. Don't check that box!

However if you DO reclaim land, well... make sure you did the right thing.

For instance, there are a lot of people who couldn't purchase $L last week due to problems with the servers. Do you reclaim their land? Something to think about.
