Dear SL Residents,

I need you help - and your opinion. I’m a student at Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies, writing my dissertation about companies in online-communities, such as Second Life.

I would be very happy if you took a couple of minutes of your time to participate in my online survey. I would like to find out what community members - such as you - think of the fact that more and more companies enter existing communities or set up their own communities.

You can find the survey here:

http://ww3.unipark.de/uc/da_fh_ponell_einzel/1fa7/

[ENDED JUNE 3]

Answering the online questionnaire will not take more than ten minutes. The results will be used for non-commercial, academic research purposes only and are completely anonymous.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Survey completed. Had to use the "fill in the blank" option more often than I normally like to do in surveys. :)

Easy, straight-forward, didn't take the estimated 10 minutes.

I've nothing against corporations doing surveys, as long as they are honest about it. Show me a link to your survey from your university's website, or a student page that is affiliated with your university. Otherwise, your credentials are in doubt.

I was kinda confused to the web address (.de). Cardiff School of Journalism is at http://journalism.cf.ac.uk/ (huh, that appears to be out of date. There is also: http://www.caerdydd.ac.uk/index.html).

Interesting and probably not of importance - "The projects are worth over £300,000."

Hey Sonia, hey Warda,

the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies website is http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/jomec/ - but as there is no link to my survey, I can't give you any 100 percent proof that I'm not a member of a company. Apart from my word, which, I know, isn't worth much in the online world.

I'm a student from Germany, using a German survey software for universities (which you are only allowed to use if you sign a contract that your survey is purely for non-commercial use), that's why the web adress has a .de ending.

I just thought that the SL community would be the right target audience to answer my questionnaire, not members of any students forum. I can truely understand your distrust. And you're right, I was thinking of putting the university logo somewhere - but would've made it a difference in terms of credibility?

...how about this (given you're on facebook):

Says that I'm a Cardiff University student, though I was the one who created the group.
