"Second Life cannot be accessed from this computer. If you feel this is an error, please contact support@lindenlab.com..."

After speaking with several friends, many of us are getting this same message, none of us can log into SL. Oddly, I seem to be able to log into the website to post this. :O My friends tell me they can't access their accounts on the website at all.

No one has my pw, no one uses my computer, yes I have a roomie who uses SL too, but he has his own computer and works from it, no I am not virused, yes I ran a deep scan after updating the security software.

wtf. =p

When LL perma-bans accounts from SL, they often block the IP of your computer so that you can not make another "alt" and come back to SL. If it is a whole group of you and your friends who are all having the same problem, it may be that you were all banned for something you did or because of an in world group you may be in which was against TOS. I hope I'm wrong, but it sounds like you were perma-banned.

Simone's roomate can still get into SL, and Simone can still log onto SL from another PC so it's not an account or IP ban, it seems to be a MAC address ban specifc to Simone's computer.

(I've been talking with Simone obviously)

Yes that's right, I am able to log in from the computer in the next room.

And I haven't done anything to get perma-banned for. =p I'm boring, really. I rarely leave the shop. =p

Do LL collect computer hardware profiles (so called hashes)?

I dunno. I've tried everything, tried a few things friends recommended, reinstalling, etc. Nothing works. I guess my computer isn't allowed into SL, but I am, as long as I log in on another computer?

Weeeeeird.

I've gotten that message before, but it's always resolved itself within 24 hours. Here's hoping! :)

Did you break off a romantic relationship with a Linden? Perhaps they feel that you (and your friends) now need some time apart.

I've had this exact same error message when logging in before, nearly had a heart attack O_O

It'd just another LL fup, it sorts it's self out after a little while.

Well, no, I'm a bit busy for that.. though, I am the perfect catch SL-wise.. I'm too busy to bug anybody to take me dancing...I never need to ask for money to go shopping...in fact, I don't shop...and if people disappear for a while, well, if I have time to notice that they're gone, I sort of shrug and hope they say hi when they do manage to log back in... :-D

If it is the IP, just use a proxy. That will answer your question.

Well, that's the thing. I can log in from my roomie's comp.. so... I'm assuming it's not the IP. I'm assuming it's my computer specifically that's the problem.

See. I knew I shouldn't have streaked through the WA nekkid and filled Prok's dam-house fulla spinning, particle spitting bits...

Have you tried using the First Look beta viewer? It's still buggy but it may not be borked in the particular way that is blocking you from SL.

The other possibilites are a virus protection program that has blocked the connection or a software incompatibility. If you've made any software (or hardware) changes to your computer system lately, try uninstalling them to see if that's the source of our problem.

Try to change IP and MAC address (search google how to do that, it is simple).
Try use different account from the same computer.
If it does not work, then LL indeed collect computer hashes.

It's definately nothing to do with the mac address, as the physical source address of a packet is always that of the last router interface it traverses, not the originating computer's.
