I've owned property in Royal for around 1.5-2 years now. I was about the 4th person to move there. Recently, someone new to Royal asked to buy the land of a few of us there. When he was turned down, he built 20m walls surrounding everyone's parcels on all sides he had access to... walls that were misaligned, 80% transparent, overlapping the borders, etc.

I asked him to please remove the wall or atleast make it look decent. He didn't respond. I banned him from my parcel.... he loves walls right? I gave him his very own personal wall to run into. I put up trees to make my lot look more natural, and haven't had any problems lately until tonight.

I log in and he has textured my side of his walls with hot pink while his side is brick. This obviously isn't against the TOS, but it is blatant harrassment/griefing. What do you do about these things short of letting the jerk run you off?

This sounds horrid - if it were me I'd probably wait him out. That doesn't suit everyone, though. I'm sorry this has happened. I hope he has a short attention span and moves on quickly.

Apart from the hot pink, it doesnt sound like he really did anything overtly hostile. (the making it hot pink on your side IS a hostile act)
Maybe his original walls didnt look good as hes rubbish at building, the overlapping textures seems to imply that.

I would suggest simply putting up your own walls on your land with NON ALPHA tree textures on your side and completely transparent (use a 100% alpha texture) on his side.

The 100% alpha on the neighboors side is the best way to avoid problems like this - if he had done that, you wouldnt have been annoyed with his walls in the first place.

This is clearly intimidation. I'd spend no more patience on the scumbag. I'd 'Abuse Report' him. I'm sorry you're getting this kind of thing. My First Land region is still fairly new so whilst residents have experimented with some odd and not entirely pleasing structures they're not entombing me other than with the dreaded red ban lines :-(

Unfortunately there isn't much we can do, Linden Lab have made it abundantly clear that they don't want to get involved in these issues so we're left to deal with it.

It usually involves one party building a wall... then the other side building a higher one, and up and up it goes.

I've had similar problems with 'bad neighbours' in the past, often they are clubs or casinos, new players enticed by the "make easy money"... and after a month or so they quit because they begin to realise that you need more than the same as everyone else to actually be a success. Then, when they quit, buy their land!

Unfortunately, retaliation tends to drag you down to their level - and more often than not, they will abuse report you... and win.

Yep, I have abuse reported him twice thus far, but nothing was done, which is what brought me here. He now owns most of the sim, and this is his attempt to own the entire sim. I've no idea why he doesn't just buy an island if he wants to own the entire sim.

Stormy, seems to me you have the upper hand here....

don't taddle on him to LL.... he's done nothing wrong. And it's quite easy to ignore him, just put your own walls on your own land and leave him be....

now.... you have something he wants.... your land.... wait till he either offers you an above average price... or, have him realize his plans for the sim can't happen because you're there.

It's sad to say, but the best approach is to completely ignore the abusive individual and just 'make do' until he bores of attempting to harrass you. Recognizing his abuse only fuels his ego and keeps you in his line of sight.

I've gone through this very thing with a parcel I owned for several months. Unfortunately the individual I dealt with did more than just put pink walls around my parcel. I made the mistake of attempting to reason with him. Then I reported him. Repeatedly. Nothing ever did any good. And the more I communicated with him the more hostile he became. At one point he installed weapons on his side of the property line and I couldn't even walk around on my property for a solid week without being shot into orbit. I eventually sold my parcel to a real estate agent who promised to list the land for an exorbitant price for the first two weeks *lol* ... since it was my theory that he was probably just irritated that he didn't get to buy the parcel first.

At any rate. Live and let live. And hopefully the tasteless rogue will find something else to do that he fancies, besides building tacky walls.

Peace,
-Saffy

Hey, if he wants the land THAT badly, why not just set it to sell for a ridiculous price and make him pay through the nose for it?

He gets your land, you make a killing off him, and everyone's reasonably happy.

Than, you can take your windfall and get some decent land in a more quiet area.

sounds like a plan! :)
Last night I was in an area where the owner had done Cortex's suggestion with the walls. It was very effective. Seemed just like an island in a tropical bay. It is a sim anyway. I've seen some rather impressive walls with beautiful textures or photos on.

Haha, I happened to log in while it was dark today and noticed he has the walls set to give off light now too. Fortunately my pc is more than capable of handling it without the slightest hiccup. The backlight on my trees is quite lovely actually. I should thank him next time he's around. :D

I actually went over to Royal yesterday to have a look. You can still see the remanants of a pink wall, but it looks like the situation has moved on a good deal ...

... because I built a wall to cover his wall.

But also the extant bit of pink wall is quite small. The property formerly harrassed by the pink wall, which I take to be yours, has a big wall round on two sides (west and south). The pink wall is only on the east section of the south boundary.

South of the wall there are two properties. The eastern one (with the pink remains) appears to be owned by a group of artists, and the western one is for sale. I expected to find you surrounded completely by land with a common owner.

So it looks as if maybe your persecutor has given up.

No, the entire wall behind the gray stone wall is hot pink wall. You're looking at the top surface of his wall prims where some are pink on 2 sides of the prim and the rest only on the side facing me. But dang you for getting my hopes up! I just ran in there to move a wall and see if I got out of the pink yet. :P

Sell him your land at an inflated price.

All except of a 16M square.

Soon, but not too soon, load your tiny square up with the most outrageous, super laggy, particle scripts you can find.

Enjoy your new property bought from your profits.

I still recommend making your wall 100% transparent alpha on his side (free texture boxes sometimes contain a "completely clear" texture for this)

This way you can have your wall higher than his without provoking him to him make his higher.
Also you can never be accused of griefing with it.

I have walls like this on my land. Tree textures on my side and completely clear on the other side. Then with real trees infront of the tree textures wall, it looks very nice.

I did set my land for sale, only to him, at 150k for 5056sqm. :) Other than his stupid griefing, my land is very beautiful, and protected by linden land on one side (roadside). The other side is bordering another sim and the landowner there has a nice build which has been there for ages, so I don't think he's going anywhere. Is 150k outrageous enough? :)

I'd make it at least 300K. If he wants it so bad make him pay for it...then go buy some nice flat, waterfront land in tropical areas from some Land Agent....and pocket the rest. ^_^

PS I only suggest this BECUASE he is an idiot.
