Private voice chat, how?

I checked out the voice package downloading it to my game. They have it at the newbie zone down at Ahern I believe it's called.

You go there and see many people using it. It's not as bad as some would have you believe. Now, does anyone know how you chat with someone else alone in a private conversation? I tried clicking just on that persons name but I could still hear others and they could hear me so that wasn't it.

I thought they said voice was in just a few places and you needed to give permission to use it on your land. Because I returned to my land and I was still talking to others and they was hearing me too.

I did find the new chat box to be bigger then the old version. I hate stuff blocking my screen so Im not crazy about it.

So how do you carry on a private conversation with another person? And do you need to do anything specific in prefrences?

I don't think private one one on voice chat has been implemented yet, but I can't recall where I read it.

I've used private voice in SL for months now. All you need is TeamSpeak or Ventrilo. Google either one and you'll find them. Set yourself up a server for them and viola, you control who's in the convo.

For someone you can see, right click them and select Send IM. When the Communicate dialog appears there should be a Call button. Click that.

You can also use the search feature to find a person and click the Send IM button in their profile, which will bring up the Communicate dialog with a Call button displayed.

I'm not sure if this works but the interface for doing it exists.

It worked with the initial First Look released Wednesday. But, I haven't been able to get it working with the newest First Look. The way to tell if you're in private voice is you get a little green voice icon next to the person's name on your IM tab.

I don't recall hearing about it either. But so long as Skype and TeamSpeak exist, there's no real need to panic :)

I was wrong, but I found this in the blog:

From: someone
Starting one-to-one voice calls is not consistently successful, and occasionally fails silently. This is a sporadic error and does not always occur. If this failure does happen to you, you may not be able to rejoin the spatial channel (which really means, “return to the voice conversation you may have been having with nearby avatars). Sometimes, the only way around this is to log in to the client again. We are very sorry for this inconvenience.
