'cuz, looking at it, it kinda says that you can prolly just use your drivers license for verification... no SIN, no Passport, just a license.
If this is the case, how many of the American's kicking up about having to give up their SIN (although, for the record, it's only the last 4 digits, as far as I can see) would verify?
From the looks of it, they just listed a whole load of possibilities so people outside of the US, those without licenses, etc etc, wouldn't be left out. I think they were covering the bases.
I don't think they're demanding your Social Security Number.

I don't think they're demanding your Social Security Number. Mine has my SS# on it hehe. MCI has my last 4 digits of my SS , so does Verizon, the local community college, several local hospitals, my health insurance, my credit card companies, my bank, Places Ive registered with where I didnt get a job yet. Probably a lot more than I can think of at the moment. The problem with identity theft is its too easy to do, becuase SS# isnt really secret. It would be nice if those places affecting you in a finacial way increased THEIR verification requirements.

You do not have to give it to anyone. I have gone hammer tongs with hospitals and other clueless folks who think they need it. If you want my buissess then you can use something else to identify me. A denist said they needed to make a file number, I told them to make one up. They did Rox

Rox It seems to me its would be far easier for someone who works in a place I give my SS# in person to Steal my identity since they have my SS# and my address, name, etc. - Than it would be some computer hacker. Still I was told by a computer security professioanl most identity theft occurs as a result of people going through their Traditional Paper Mail. This is not to say that people shoudl be forced to give all their details to a third party to prove their age. I still am confused why those who Verfied with their CC cant just be grandfathered in. Especially those of us whove been around. Heck Im 2 years older than I wasn when I signed up. I have kids who will be 18 soon enough. So me proving im 18 seems really kind of funny.

I never agreed with the teen second life concept anyway. Its funny that *I* have to be verified though since I think im older than most of the Lindens. That wasnt an argument against age verification - it was just a general observation. I think its funny when im carded to buy alcohol too, since ive been able to drink since the First Bush was in office.

I think the cashier liked me. ^^ Believe me that's the more logical explanation. I don't look 20ish in the mirror... wish I did!

Either way I'll end up doing it because I'd be losing out on too much money if I quit SL. I'd much rather use my drivers license, though.
Oh and I'm 23 and I've been carded like two out of ten times I've been to the liquor store here. Maybe it's because I was buying wine, lol.
