Occasionally in the sim where I have my home, I get bombarded by repeated shouts generated by an object. I have tried simply muting the object, but apparently if the owner rezzes fresh copies, I have to mute each new one.
In a rather ironic twist of fate, the item in question most often seems to be a texture catalog initially created by TRU, the store where I sell my own textures. The object appears to be shouting when someone is attempting to modify it in an inappropriate fashion.
Is there any way to locate an object belonging to someone else when it is shouting in a sim? Is there any way to at least identify who the shouting object belongs to, if you can't find the object?
So far, the only way I can think of to locate it would be to try teleporting to each of the other green dots on the map in the same sim, and asking each person that I see if they are causing the shouts by manipulating an object of that name. But this is a residential sim, and I really don't want to TP directly into someone's home and bug them about possibly causing the shouting.
I would like to locate the owner to get them to stop doing this. Obviously they are trying to do something that the object won't allow, and it is complaining loudly about it. I would hope that I may be able to resolve the matter by helping them to use the object correctly.
Any ideas? I do have a Scan-Foo scanner, but the usefulness of that tool in locating an object is limited when there are a lot of other scripted objects nearby, and you don't know who the target belongs to. I also have a different scanner that can list any avatars within 96 Meters of my position.

If you are able to script, make an object scanner. If you have alot of money but can't script, buy one. If you want to find the owner for free contact me inworld, and I will use an object scanner to find the object for you

If you know the object's name you can scan for it using llSensor with name specifying the object's name and type set to ACTIVE. You can learn more about llSensor here: http://www.lslwiki.net/lslwiki/wakka.php?wakka=llSensorYou might try checking Search > Places for a shop which might have the kind of scanner you're looking for or, if you can tinker with LSL, cobble a wearable scanner together pretty quickly so you can track down the object

Shameless plug time:
I make an 'Object Finder' and this was one of the two exact purposes the device is made for. You give it the name of the object (which you can get out of chat history) and it gives you the coordinates and owner name of all objects in range matching that name.
It's only L$75 and its available at my shop or on SLX and SLB
/end shameless plug

It appears my Scan-foo gadget does have a "scan by name" funcrion for locating an object by its specific name. So I'll try that, next time the object shouts. But your simple scanner does look nice.

Instead of TPing to the dots you could shout back asking if anyone is creating it.... if you're in shout range of it then and whoever might be manipulating it, then it is in shout range of you?

I could, but it's a residential sim, not a casino or SLINGO parlor. It's bad enough that their object is shouting, without adding to the unwanted noise level myself.

Someone just posted a useful script in the "Scripting Library" that might help in your situation: /15/4a/177046/1.html

If you have scan foo and you think its the TRU catalog here is what you do: Wear your scan foo Say in chat: scan by others scan active scan by name TRU Catalog V3b
Then it should tell you where it is.
Btw, you can also mute it by name. Then you dont have to locate it. And it wouldnt matter how many times its rezzed as long as its still the same version. I prefer muting by name, because it sticks.
As for making it stop shouting ... i dont think the owner can do that. Talk to LillyBeth and have her impliment whisper in future editions.

From the View menu, select "Look at Last Chatter" Your camera angle will change to look directly at the last object that whispered/chatted or shouted.
[Edit: I just tried this and found that the object needs to be visible from your current position for this to work. In my test, this meant I had to be within about 35m of it]
