My advice for such a parcel:
- Pick a sim that doesn't have clubs, camping chairs, or malls (unless you plan on doing that exact same thing of course) - Avoid anywhere that is near 16m plots.

Ken, start on the first page of the land sale list. Sort by price per meter and select the mainland only filter. Then start hitting the 512s and seeing if you like any. Work your way down the list (and up in price) until you find one you love.
Beware of areas with tons of land for sale all around you. you never know who your new neighbors are going to be and what kind of ugly builds/ads they will put up. If you can find an area that is more established with nice landscaping, it's a better bet (although all mainland is subject to change and uglification since there are no zoning rules or covenants).
You will know the plot for you when you see it. Just don't jump in before you browse around.
If you want help in-world, try IMing one of the well-known brokers. Most are happy to help newcomers.
Good luck!

Not buying where there is a lot of parcels on sale for sure is good advice. You never know what will show up next day.
Also, before buying a parcel, I would monitor the region during various times of the day for any watering holes drawing an excessive number of residents (e.g. a camping outfit). That would be a no-no.
Best would be a region with a few large landowners who don't have a lot of traffic. That's the rule I applied ... which brought me to Bagat.

I have the (unsubstantiated) impression that new fledgeling malls are not that much of a danger, because they tend to be ghost towns anyway, due to the oversupply with pre-existing malls. The rest is to be avoided like a pest, for sure.

My thoughts...

Are you a premium member yet? I think you can buy estate land without going premium, which might work out cheaper than mainland, and possibly include some nice zoning restrictions (i.e., no 16m parcels with horrible advertising)
Some people claim L$4000 - L$5000 is the going price for 512m... but the land I've found at that price usually has something very wrong nearby- usually those annoying rotating signs or a giant casino.
I'd suggest searching in the L$5000 - L$6000 range; I found some nice plots that way.

I plan to build my upcoming land as my virtual space. (similar to my web space: zhaoke.com), which will focus on technical side. so i need a quiet and comfortable land. thanks for ur suggestions. Given that you are very new in SL, and are looking for quiet, I would strongly recommend renting land for now. Island rental is more secure in terms of ambience, especially if you're planning on such a small plot of land. Just so you know, 512sm and 117prims requires some rather spartan living. It would make more sense to rent to learn whether or not you can do what you want in this amount space. Otherwise, you may find that you want two to three times the space and will just have to sell and move again, possibly at a loss. There's a somewhat steep learning curve for getting comfortable in SL, and buying land is something you should do farther along rather than sooner.

This is true, but in the past 2 months, prices have wildly fluctuated due to the Lindens dumping land as well as the emergence of landbots. Prices will lower again, at least until LL stops dumping large quantities of land onto the market. Learn the market. Study it. Make a strategy. then carry it out. If you are so hot to get land now, rent. Take your time. Rushing is the worst thing to do in land.

Too late. The OP already bought a plot in a moderately busy PG region.
