A quick question. If you ignore someone on the forums do you just not see their posts or are they not able to post on a thread you start? I notice there are a lot of people with like 500 posts in 6 months but their posts are just them listening to the sound of their own typeing.
Other people have 3000 posts in a couple of years but they are always constructive and helpful (Jillian Callahan) comes to mind for this. I think it would be great to be able to keep some flamers from posting on your thread if you have them ignored but if it isnt like that then I dont want to ignore them and have a "broken conversation" going on.

The way ignore works, They can still post to your threads. The person's name shows up as posting, but you can't see their post. There's a link tho, that lets you see their post.. if you really want to. If someone quotes them though, I'm pretty sure you'll see the quoted text.

Hope that helps. You can also always UN-mute someone if you get bored with the mute, or the issue stops mattering for you. I'm not sure what happens if they try to PM you using the forums while muted.

(it might be retroactive too, so it might hide all posts ever made by that person... think of it more like a tabbed up folder.. you can still see the folder name, but not the contents. you gotta go an extra step and click the triangle to view the contents.)

It's useful if you're easily agitated, and have like a weak heart or severe athsma or something.. or if the situation is so rife with conflict that just reading their posts can double your heartrate.. then being able to "not see" a post is useful. Then when you're ready.. you can click the link and see what they had to say.

As for in-world.. it's pretty neat. Mute someone, and they might as well not exist. they can't chat at you in person, they can't shout.. they can't IM you.. can't even drop a notecard on you. You can see them, you can see their stuff, and you can see their typing movements.. but nothing appears. One thing they can still do is use floating text... or pay you. (and thereby interact with your vendors).

Hrm.. 7 months.. 437 posts :(

I thought I would try the 'Quote' method Winter, in case you were already muted by Indy Quamar lol...

I have pasted and copied the many functions available in SL to our Goverment, to see if they can impliment the 'Mute' function in RL life.

*chuckles*

Maybe unlike Indy Quamar, I think that the amount of real flaming is not overdone here... at least when I compare it with places I have seen (and left). Sure there are every now and then some spicey posts, but sure... I can life with that.

For the rest I see most as result on disagreeing on a subject or adding informatie (maybe at some moments not to the topic, but what the heck)... which should be allowed and welcomed.

This message is hidden because Regan has put EVERYONE on her ignore list and now has no one left to talk to.

This is how I mute people in RL. :D

Ho hum, forums the WWW over are full of nice people, and not so nice people -- and there is usually a blur in the middle because many will treat them as social and not businesslike environments, and our little cultural & regional quirks will often cause communication breakdowns.

When somebody baits you or drops bitchy hints just to feel empowered, the best response is surely to ignore or quietly mute them. (I should work on this instead of responding in-kind so often.) But announcing out-loud that you muted somebody is counter-productive I think, and often makes you look as mentally challenged as the person who goaded you into doing it.

I don't think I would mute anybody no matter how much they annoyed me. The way I see it, if I exercise my privilege of posting an opinion or idea on a given subject, I have a responsibility to take in someone else's counter opinion/idea. I see very little productive use for mute.

LMAO Winter isnt ignored by me. Actually nobody is. It wasnt even aimed at her although she thought it was too. There is a post in fearture suggestions on ban lines that prompted this question. I think Dillon knows who needed to be ignored LOL

I only ever used the mute option once, on one poster on another board because their posts just rubbed me up the wrong way.

I didn't use it for long though because curiosity would just get the better of me and I was always checking to see what they'd said that I couldn't see :)

Just be patient, the way LL is closing forums lately, before long there will not be any forums for anyone to post in...

I've had some of my Best discussions with people i strongly disagreed with, why would i Want to Ignore them.
I wouldn't advise speaking only to persons who agree with you 100% because they have Institutions for people who Talk to themselves.

Perhaps, if posts like this dominate. Fortunately, they do not.
