I want to be able to measure the height of my neighbors' houses without being too intrusive, is there anyway to do that?

And, what is the best way to measure, say a 10m x 20m section on my own property?

An easy way is to create 3 prim rulers, say 10 meters, 20 meters, and 30 meters long.

Design a graphic in Photoshop or Windows paint that is say red, blue, or green, and divide it into 10 subsections all of equal distance apart, with a thin black line.

Upload the graphics into Second Life, the cost is $L10 per upload, and create your prims and texture them with the uploaded graphics according to length. On the 10-meter rule you want one graphic repeat, the 20 meter 2 repeats and the 30 meter 3 repeats assuming you texture after linking

I would suggest a prim of 10 meters by 0.25 by 0.25. Use either a large prim set or link (on the 20 and 30 meter rule) the 2 or 3 10-meter prims together.

Save in inventory as (named as) 10, 20, and 30-meter rule.

Simple and straightforward, however there are other scripted and Linden O/S routes to achieve this such as grid

Not sure if you would consider this intrusive....

Stand on the ground next to your neighboor's house and note your altitude in the SL menu bar. Stand on the roof of their house and note the altitude. Subtract ground altitude from the roof altitude.
