The problem seems to be the possiblity of converting Lindens into $US ... if such conversion were not possible and what came into SL stayed in SL, would there be a problem?

I am confused, are you suggesting that no one be allowed to convert SL money into real world currency any more?

I think that would make the furor over the casino ban, look like ... well, I shudder to think what it would look like (*hides her eyes*).

NOT a pretty sight.

Uh...yeah! If what was in SL stayed in SL then there goes most of the legitimate businesses in SL. No one could cash out! No incentive to drive business!

Sacrificing gambling is a much-prefered alternative to sacrificing all commerce.

Maybe it would be just a ban on converting gambling winnings into $US ...

Too easy to be laundered, as L are fungible.

There is no way around it. If it all stayed in world, you could buy hella islands if you were big enough. Oh well, too bad LL wants USD for those :P

I bet someone could make a gambling HUD that keeps track of chips so those of us who would play for sport could still enjoy it. It would have no actual value but would be more like a high score you could get awards for...something like that...

If someone made a Casino Royale-esque place with style and class and a system like that I bet it would be popular. I'd go!

and you would separate those from the rest of the resident's L$ how?

Not to mention that if the person spends the winnings to buy a product and the merchant then converts it into real-world currency, you're just adding a layer. And if that merchant happens to be an alt of the winner, selling prim cubs for a hefty sum ... Linden-laundering?

It would be popular, but it would be dependent on tips and possibly advertising to make tier. Could it work? Maybe. Possible? Not likely.
