Does anyone know what the top 7 languages spoken in SL are? I remember seeing stats about usage per country and that would probably answetr the question. DOes anyone know where i can find those stats?

I don't know if it helps, but the ones used by most SL Babblers are English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, German, Japanese and Chinese.
I find it interesting that these forums offer sections in Spanish, German, Japanese, and Korean. Perhaps these 4 were chosen based on SL Demographics?

From: Eben Slade Perhaps these 4 were chosen based on SL Demographics? Probably. On the other hand it's a known fact that there are more German speakers and Spanish speakers who don't know English *at all* than, let's say, Dutch, Indian or Scandinavian people. The Japanese and Koreans on the other hand, face another barrier, which is the alphabet, making other languages more difficult to read. One of the most widespread SL languages is definitely German. Take a look how many exclusively German speaking sims there are. There are also a lot of German investors present. I was also told that SL is being advertised on German TV on a regular basis. The SL laguage makeup is a mix of many factors I guess.

Which is something I don't really get... I'm German and learned English at school. Everyone here did. There's no homeschooling in Germany, and English is a compulsory subject at every public school. One would think that every German under 50 years of age should be able to speak or at least write English. But there's the German tourist type, also called the "ugly German". They're a special breed who spend their holidays on Mallorca, walk into a local restaurant and order a Wiener Schnitzel. With beer. Lots of beer. And of course they order in German. "We ain't learnin' no foreign language and ain't eatin' no frig'n paella... dey let us in, dey haveta unnerstand us an' serve de same ol'grub we're eatin' at home". You won't find someone of that sort able to speak English, no matter how hard their frustrated English teacher once tried. Also no grammatically correct German, for that matter. Well, this type of German is currently swarming the grid. No wonder, it's free of charge. Even cheaper than Mallorca. And, as usual, they expect everyone to talk German and serve Wiener Schnitzel mit Pommes und Bier.

From my experiences, that sounds about right. However, I have spoken to very few Chinese. I have also noticed a complete lack of people from Africa. I guess that continent has limited broadband coverage.
