!UPDATE! Problem Resolved: The Vista Aero theme was causing all the lag. Once changed to Windows Classic all was well!Well I doubt I'd get many answers from the Vista thread so I'll just post it here: I don't know why but I'm SERIOUSLY lagging in SL. I just freshly reformat'd to Windows Vista Ultimate x64 and now after 20 seconds in the game it starts lagging so bad that it's unplayable. Specs: Windows Vista Ultimate x64 AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS (320 MB) 2.00 GB RAM HDD = 185 GB Free And my internet connection shouldn't be a problem either: http://www.speedtest.net/result/80368977.png

Since the update, I have also noticed a lot of packet loss, time dialations and high sim pings (typical being 200ms user, sim 300ms +) I believe they have implemented a sim server rolling start to clear some 'issues'... over the years, it has always taken a while for the servers to settle down after an update.... LOL.. we used to get updates every Wednesday..

I remember (I think it was the 1.5 rollout) SL being so bad they shut it down for a day. That was followed by a month of nearly impossible to log in and hopeless TPs. Then another update that shot pending downloads on sims into the tens of thousands causing a totally grey world for nearly a week as they cleared. Honestly the bump we have had lately just don't seem that horrible in comparison.

That's good perspective, Darkness Funny most people talk about SL back in the day "when it worked." Guess there were issues back then too.

152 % packet loss last night! I show no interferance from the diagnostic program that 2L recommends. Its happening in most all the Sims that I visit. Totaly unplayable for me right now.

I know there used to be a problem with dualcore setups but I'm not sure if they were resolved. Also, make sure any spyware or antivirus isn't actively scanning your cache folder.

Milo- try sliding your bandwidth down some. That helped me a lot even on a very fast connection.

I see high bandwidth for about the first 10 seconds after I land but packet loss hasn't been an issue. I would love to hear from those of you with it if you have it on our island(Dragon Isle). I've done alot of work to make it a lagless as humanly possible and would love input on how well or poorly I have done. I don't lag there but that doesn't mean anything. I would love to hear from someone that routinely has lag, high packet loss.

Windows vista is not yet a supported OS for sl. They are working on the issue.

I think that needs to be the theme of sl. Not 'Your World, Your Imagination' but...Second Life...they are working on the issue.
I'm also running on vista, have been since it came out and see major problems in certain areas, but its not consistent at all. *shrugs* Waiting for them to support vista eagerly.

I use two cores no problem so I don't think that's it but press ctrl+alt+delete to bring up task manager; select SL.exe and right click to "set afffinity" to one core.

Iven - to me it sounds like a setting issue on your part. Have you put your bandwidth slider down? I keep mine at 600-700 even with a very highspeed dedicated line (I get basically no packetloss this way). What is your draw distance at? I just IMd you in world.

Ive played with my bandwidth and my draw distance. Keeping the draw on 100 or so and my bandwidth about 600 I get varying numbers, 0 to 50. Its just never consistant. Mostly around the 30 range. I have done everything possible short of screaming at Verizon.
I'm gonna go read a book.

*blows dust off the bookshelf* Same. It seems it's not my ISP because I'm getting a nice and steady 4500Kbps.

Ahah! I found the problem! It was the Aero Theme :3.
Once I disabled all was good.
