Quote from blog:
"Pending final verification of issues, we’re tentatively calling it 1.15, but it’s currently known on the Beta Test Grid as 1.14.1.2 — see Josh’s earlier post for details of what’s changed, if you’d like to try it out.
Big changes: Many fixes to address rendering issues with 1.14.0 viewers, e.g. on older video cards Added Mature Content parcel flag (as previously mentioned)"
Does this mean that PG parcels will show up on search by default?

It appears that they are adding parcel level granularity to the Mature/PG filtering in search - IE you may have a parcel in a Mature region, however your content is PG. Unchecking the "Mature" setting in your parcel flags would cause it to show up in PG searches. I may be wrong about this, maybe Torley can clarify if he happens by this thread.. Parcel level granularity for PG/mature ratings isn't necessarily a good idea.
Those ratings are teh only thing even vaguely approaching content controls on the mainland. Up to now, a person could buy mainland in a PG sim and know he won't be getting a brothel next door. If this is reduced to parcel level, and an avatar can set this, then it removes the last trace of mainland zoning control.

No, this would have no effect on what type of content is allowed on a PG sim. All it means is, if you have a family-friendly shop that happens to be on land listed as mature, you can can flag your parcel appropriately and searches that filter for mature will reflect that flag instead of the sim rating overall. It would still be against the TOS to put mature content in a PG sim, and presumably also to mislabel the contents of your shop. DISCLAIMER: This of course is just my reading of the thing; I think it's likely, though, that this is how most people would understand it to work. It's just fixing search is all, it has nothing to do with what's allowed on PG land.

Will there be filters for PG only, M only, or both?
With filters for PG only or both, folks might want to mark their M parcels as PG so they would show up with Both selected. They might figure that the benefit would outweigh the risk of getting caught.
With filters for either PG or M or both, an M content parcel marked as PG wouldn't show up when people do an M only search, thus giving the owner at least some reason to mark them correctly.

I assume that they are not changing the parcel rating system, and are just changing the search to look at the 'mature content' flag that already exists on each parcel on the grid. This should not affect PG sims, as those sims do not allow mature content no matter what the parcel is set for. This should allow those locations in a mature sim, that do not have mature content, to show up in the search engine when the mature checkbox is not checked. As it is now, any business in a mature sim is masked out of the places search, regardless of the state of the 'mature content' checkbox.

The release notes are pretty clear . From: someone ** Parcel searches use the parcel rating instead of the region rating This one could go either way, but common sense would suggest that it probably means thats you can't check Mature content on a non-Mature sim. From: someone * Fixed ability to set Mature on parcels in non-Mature regions

Actually I think this is the laying hte groundwork for tighter controls on the "Adult" industry. LL can now say its up to the landowner to control access. ANd when they put in the "voluntary age verification, should any legal action ensue they can easily shunt it too the landowners saying we gave you the tools you didn't use them.

I guess it depends a lot on how they implement this. If, as I fear, an avatar can set his parcel as mature, regardless of the sim's overall setting, it will be a disaster. Hopefully, only sims that are M-rated can contain parcels that are M-rated.

Anyway this looks like good news for non-mature shop owners on Mature land. I only wonder how LL will implement it in order to filter out sexual shops, while showing non-sexual shops on Mature land when the mature checkbox is unchecked.
