You need to own the land underneath to build a skybox. Then its basically building on the ground except cant rez a primin the high air..so make a flat large 'box' and send it up to as high as you want to build. Use it as a platform to rez houses, more prims, etc out on. It can be deleted when done.

Another solution

For this you need a teleporter of some kind.

I build my skybox on the ground so I know it fits in the confines of my land. I put a teleporter where I want it to be and note the exact coordinates of it. Once everything is placed, I select the whole house and link it together. Edit the linked objects and note the beginning Z value for altitude. I then change it by adding something to it - I ususally use round numbers like 200. Hit enter and it vanishes up to 200 meters above it's present location.

Now place a teleporter on the ground and edit it's destination to the first teleporter and add 200 to the Z value. Note this teleporters location, then teleport to the first one and you should be in your house. Modify this teleporter so the destination is the second teleporter.

If you don't like where it's at, add 50, 100 or whatever until it's at a good height, making sure to modify both teleporters each time. Keep in mind that the Sit kind of teleporters can only go 300 meters, so if that's all you have, you may need a staging platform to go higher.

I tried other methods, but this worked best for me and I didn't have to worry about being over someone's land once I elevated it.

Ouch!

Gone? What do you mean gone?

Can you go to the place where you bought the land?

If so, who does the system say owns it?

If it belongs to Govener Linden, what happens when you try to buy it?

Is the money you paid back in your balance?

If you are unable to retrieve your land, by all means file a Bug Report, then contact Live Help
and give Live Help the rt number in the e-mail your Bug Report generates in your in-box. It wouldn`t hurt to file the URL of this thread [/327/4f/148805/1.html] in both the Bug Report and the Live Help request.

Make sure you actually re-logged in the sim that you bought the land in! If you crashed after resetting your home position, and hadn't logged off after changing 'home', the OLD home position or the last place you *did* log out might be where you re-rez! SO when you logged back in, you probably were NOT on your newly purchased parcel!

Check the SL menus, for the one that lists what land you own. If it says you own nothing, but your money is gone, definitely contact support. If it says you own a 512 M2 parcel, it will list the sim name and coordinates of it. Go there, and see if your land is actually just 'not where you looked before'.

As for building in the sky, I personally LOVE doing sky builds!

Yes, you MUST own the land under the sky build! Best way not to build beyond your borders is to place long tall prins at the corners and edges of your land, then send these "marker posts" up to the altitude you plan to build at.

Then make a prim that is 3M or so wide, and sit on one end of it. Focus your camera on yourself, then edit the prim to change it's Z-height to the altitude you sent the marker prims to.

You can rez prims on the end of the prim you're sitting on, then move them into place to make your sky build.

Any altitude ladd than 768 meters is OK for building. Builds that extend above 768 M have a tentdancy to fall apart if bumped or moved.

Cubey Terra offers a free teleporter that easily can reach to 768 M altitude. I highly recommend it for access to your castle in the sky!

One issue I found in building above or trying is the object or building drifts and its really really hard to see where your property begins and ends up there.

Place a cube marker in the corner of your plot and then move them up to the same height as your build, you will then have 4 floating posts to stay within.
