TVs that show movies

Greetings,

I have done some searching and learned some things, such as only one streaming video feed on a land parcel, etc.

But my question is about the TV & movies. I want to put a TV in my house on my land and stream a movie(s) to it. I found some shops that sell TVs, but I am not understanding how it works or what I need to do.

I guess my first question is, do I pick out the compatible TV, then another piece of equipment to show movies? Would have a selection of movies to show? Ie, do they come in horror packs, action, romance, etc? I assume the movies are streaming from the internet, so only prims are couple that belong to TV?

Can I get two TVs (one upstairs and one downstairs) and show the same movie or be able to watch one TV or other? I did read in search you can't view multiple movies on parcel of land at same time in different rooms.

I found one shop that sells TVs that gets 147 MTV music videos, but this is not what I want, I would rather have movies.

Once I get what I need, is there set up involved other than placing objects in my house?

Sorry if this is a topic covered before, I didn't find the answers in search.

Lastly, if there is a good shop to visit for the TV & movie packs, could you please post it so I know what to search?

Thank you in advance!

Any TV from any vendor is compatible with each other, because they all simply use the same "media texture" which you can define in your parcel's "About Land" menu.

When a video is streamed, it is shown on any object textured with that media fabric. The stream is defined by a URL in the same "About Land" menu. When you "tune" a TV to a channel, or buy streams from a vendor, all they do is change this URL for you.

As you've gathered, because the URL is tied to the parcel, you can only show one video stream at a time within the same parcel. You can however sub-divide your parcel into two or more parcels if you wish.

When you "rent" a movie (or get music videos), the vendor gives you a device ("remote control";) to change the parcel URL to the video stream. 99% of the time, this points to a pirated copy of the video, so just be aware what you're paying for.

Thanks, that helps alot.

So if I buy a TV (all the ones at the shop were capable of streaming video), I just need to find a internet site to stream from or is that what is in the "remote" that is sold by the store?

I am not looking for pirated stuff. I just wasn't interested in the 147 MTV music videos sold at the store. When you mention a video package the vendor sales, are you referring to in the SL store? And is that simply a cost of $L for the remote, then I am good? Meaning, no monthly rental or per movie?

Thanks and sorry for a probably simple question.... Thanks

Yes you can find your own URLs. A "remote" or "rental" device is simply a list of URLs someone has compiled for you (usually full of pirated stuff.) You can get some free URLs from America Free TV.

Before buying, you can find free (or nearly free) TV sets in-world to experiment with. I think there's one at the GNUbie store for $1. You can even make your own TV by simply texturing any prim with the media texture.

Because TVs are really just textured media, some of the "commercial" TVs offer added conveniences like the ability to set URLs via a website, can show picture slide-shows when not watching TV, can set your audio streams, etc. Some TV creators have also put in some time to make their TVs look nice. That's really what you're paying for.
