Hi,

I've been wandering around SL for a few days now totally gobsmacked by all there is to see and do but one thing has already started to niggle me - the timing of events.

As a resident of the UK (in RL) my clock is seven hours ahead of SL time - or PDT. Therefore even the early evening events are starting in the early hours of the morning my time - and for all of Europe as well.

Are there any communities of Brits/Europeans in SL that organise events more suited to GMT? Is there anywhere to post messages for the RL international community in SL?

It's only a small niggle and doesn't detract from an amazing online experience...much. I wish, though, that I stood up to all these late nights as well as my avatar does! :)

I know Many Brits in SL, as well as other Europeans who have the same Time Zone adjustment to make. As yet i haven't seen a specific Brits group, But i've seen Brits join other groups and do quite well with the Night Owl members from other Time Zones.

Good Luck.

There is a SL in-world group called "Brits in SL"; it appears to be by invitation only, so IM the officer, Hawk Statosky, to join.

There is also a Yahoo group called "Brits_and_Pieces ยท Brits and Pieces of Second Life" at http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Brits_and_Pieces .

Those 8 hours back can be a bit of a pain but it works out okay at the weekend especially on Sunday afternoon and evening (GMT).

Also I am in Caledon which has a Victorian theme to it, I believe there are some Brits there.

I'm from the UK and occasionally organise events around about 10pm uk time, which is about the end of our day but also catches a good few early east coast USA as well.

Look me up some time, you'll usually find me near the Stratics HQ in Rosieri.

I'm new to the game as well. I'm actually an American but I'm studying in Spain until december, meaning we are closer to one another than the rest of the American second lifers. My name is Knosaj Sabena, look me up if you feel like it.

Hello! Another Brit here :) I have an event on tonight actually - it's 11pm for me, which is the latest I can reasonably manage without passing out on the keyboard at the end of it! I tend to stick to that time, and on a weekend, on the assumption that most of you odd-time-zone people won't be stuck at work and might still be able to pop in. It usually works out OK. And for the brits, there's always people like me who spend far too much time in SL and will probably still be awake too! (if they're not in the pub, being a Saturday night - I try to get hugely hung-over on the Saturday of an event so I don't mind not being in a pub :D)

Thanks to everyone - great response and some excellent contacts. I wish you to do this kind of thing in RL communities and get such a quick reaction. :)

I don't know about Brits or other European groups.. I do know a great place where you can almost always meet people from all over. I have never sotpped by when there weren't at least three of four people there.. and sometimes a crowd of twenty of so.

Try dropping by The Elbow Room in world. It is a great little pub.

Maybe you have found an opportunity. If there are not enough events available for the times you want, then maybe *you* should schedule events for those times.

Become a promoter and producer of great evetns for Brits, and they shall come.

I'm astonished that there is an "Amsterdam" recreation in SL, but as yet (that I've found) no "london". Trafalgar Sq should be a snap to reproduce, and there's already a precedent for having driving games that reproduce the twists n turns of London streets. If I had even the vaguest clue how to get land or put one measly brick upon the next, I'd give it a shot...

Some time ago, an enterprising group constructed on two or three Sims a group of settings based upon the story of Peter Pan. It included Neverland of course, but it's entry was in a Victorian London setting that Included the East End, Buckingham Palace, and a Lovely Upper class residential area. In addition to simply touring the Story setting There were games to play, Including Hunting for the Crown Jewels, or Cops and Robbers. There was also Freebie Clothing, and Vintage Cars one could drive about. Even a sewer system to explore.
Wonderful Build.

If you are Interested in a Similar Atmosphere, try the Caladonia Sims (Though Lag Can be Vicious there).

If you want some Building Lessons in order to try your own hand at it, Contact me In Game, I will be pleased to act as your Tutor. My own structures Inspired by the Crystal Palace, and the Que (Sp) Gardens Botanical conservatory Were fairly well praised, so i'm sure i could show you a Few things.

Angel.

Amsterdam is simple so much more beautiful then London...
Just kidding of course. I have visited London more then once and I loved it there. But Amsterdam is the city where I was born, so it is indeed kinda special to me.
