What happens to Land Prices When All This New Tier Comes Due?

At this point in the land cycle, I can't imagine even spending $1000 on a new sim. The tier is going to eat you alive. There is so much land on the market and about 10 sims more worth in a few hours. Of course there are still all those purple sims just waiting to be auctioned. I finally sole my large sized parcel today for 9.3L per sqm....... and I was happy to get it. I took about a 50% loss on it, but another month's tier comes due next week and I couldn't see shelling out good money after bad.

Thats the problem with buying and holding land....... property taxes come due monthly. I am actually shopping for a smaller parcel now but only about 4096m. If you can't earn your tier off your use of the land, its just a money pit.

I think I will wait to buy for another few days.

Bingo! That's why these little SL businesses are so darn useful: they help pay for the cost of owning land in SL.

I would imagine that many of the people who shelled out 2k usd to buy a sim only for the purpose of reselling find it very difficult to sell. As you said, supply and demand are all out of whack at the moment nor do they seem like they'll be getting into equlibrium soon. The last of those auctions will be ending within an hour -- it will be very interesting to see if more sims are put up for auction immediately, and if so, how many.

I wonder if there were a lot of realtors upset by the US government attempting to attract
new settlers to go out west as settlers.

Or when the US bought Alaska, smiles.

That's a fun comparison but inapt. It's not like in RL you can instantly teleport anywhere in the entire world.

Actually, supply and demand are just fine. A lot of people have been waiting to buy land, but not willing to buy at the prices sellers have been putting up for the past three months. Price it right, and it will sell. People want to buy land at $5 - $7 m2 -- and when I say "people," I mean end users who are actually going to do something on that land besides resell it.

And Alazarian is exactly right, all of the people who pay their tier out-of-pocket just to have a little playground and all those who pay their tier through providing content are completely unaffected by the land supply. One of the major drawbacks of being a land broker in SL is that you are totally at the mercy of LL and their business decisions, almost no other "business" in SL has this problem, nor do those who pay tier out-of-pocket. Land brokering in SL is a dangerous game and those who didn't realize just how dangerous are the ones who just got nailed....
