Folders in Boxes?

I am putting spare inventory in boxes, and I would like to put whole folders of stuff in there, still in their folders. But I don't seem to be able to drag a folder in there. Is the only way to do this to move everything from a folder into a box instead, then put a bunch of those folder/boxes into a box?

I note that the Contents is itself a folder, so it seems like I should be able to move folders into boxes. If so, how?

Thanks ....

You can drag the contents of a folder into a box by pressing the control key down and holding it down, clicking on the folder, and dragging over to the box, then let off the mouse button once the cursor changes to a white arrow with a rectangle stuck to it, or have the object in edit mode with the content tab showing, then control drag the folder from your inventory into the area where the Contents folder in the object editor is or into the area below.

You can't have separate folders or sub-folders in objects's contents, so far as I am aware.

There is a way to organize a folder like system in a box if what you're trying to do is store your things to organize and lessen your inventory.
This is what I do:
Say I have five folders of contents I want to store, like five outfits I've made to sell in my store, I want to keep the copies but I don't want to have them filling up my inventory.

Rez five prim cubes
Drop the contents of each folder into each prim cube
Name the prim cubes (EX: Prim one is named "Plaid halter dress" and holds all the contents for that outfit, Prim two is named "Sequin ball gown" and holds all the contents for that outfit, etc etc)
Pick up the now named and filled prims
Rez another prim cube
Pull your named and filled prims from your inventory into the final cube
Delete the copies in your inventory
Name the prim something that will help you remember what is in it. (EX: Spring hottie collection 2007)
Pick up the prim and keep it in your inventory.

So now instead of the thirty or so items that would make up that "spring collection", I now only have the one prim in my inventory and the next time I need "Sequin ball gown" I can just rez my storage prim and get it. It's tedious if you're rezzing a prim every time you're looking for something, so this process is really only good for items you'll only need to get to rarely.

Rez five prim cubes.

If you want to get really fancy...

I've created a basic box prim that I use for a collection of items. It's textured to look like a wooden crate.

Then I drop all the crate prims in a storage closet prim -- textured to look like a wooden locker with double doors. So when I rez an object I know immediately whether it is a collection of individual items or a collection of prim storage boxes.

Thank you all - I love Resident Answers, it saves wasting time with silly experimentation! I hope to someday know enough to answer someone's question myself, lol.

Great idea Regan, I was using hover text but such long hover strings are annoying. Gives me a good excuse to play with simple textures too, which I haven't done. I see free textures everywhere, but don't really want to further stuff my inventory with tons of textures that I would never use!!! Do any of you know of good free not-too-huge texture starter kits for:
-- furniture
-- simple buildings
-- skins (this would be just to play with, I realize it must be complex)
Guess I'll start with the stuff that comes in everyone's library.

Winter, I'll be in touch, I'm intrigued by the idea of inventory management scripts. I do have a widget that I got from a lucky chair that is supposed to help organize inventory, but I think it's for people who don't know how to build boxes!
