Stupid newbie shoe questions

1. Does "stretch" always pull the item of clothing in any direction except the one you need? (I gave up on belts)
2. Has anyone in the history of SL ended up getting their left and right shoes to look alike, or am I just bad at this?
3. Why would a construction boot need to be an attachment like this, and not just a shoe? Does it need more bulk or something? (My fault for not thinking before I bought -- they weren't expensive -- they are cool, aside from the fact that I can't use them).
4. Does anyone know of a shop that sells a good construction workboot in "shoe" form?

If anyone just wants to take me shopping, look for me in world.

1. Depends on what color handles the perms let you have...white will stretch all axes, the other colors, only along one. Deselect the 'Stretch Both Sides' box to stretch only in one direction.
2. Sure, but going to the 'Object' tab in Edit can help if the perms let you know the size of your prim(s).
3. Because purely texture shoes are form-fitting and don't give that chunky 'work boot' look. It would be precisely the size of your ankle and foot.
4. No, won't happen. To be decent looking, it needs to be prim.

My advice would be to shrink your feet, not enlarge the boot.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Thanks very much for the tips, Ann!

If I shrink my feet, isn't that going to reverse the impression I was trying to make with my big new boots?

Only if you take the boots off...their size is not relative to your foot size.

Most SL footwear is designed to fit Size 0 feet.

I haven't had a single problem since I shrunk my feet. Very Chinese sort of practice, what?

It does make perfect sense, but it seems so ... dishonest, somehow.

Well, women's footwear, anyway...I think most guys' shoes are around 30.

Look at it this way: even if there wasn't the size 0 standard, you'd probably still have to adjust your foot size to whatever the creator used when they originally made the shoe. As it is, you can just set it and forget it, rather than having to change with every new pair.

There is another reason. You can stretch anything to fit larger feet, but you can't necesarily shrink it, since if any single prim in the shoe has the minimum permissible dimension of 0.05m, then the whole set won't shrink any further.
