Is it just me or is everyone experiencing problems in SL today? I can't hardly move because of Lag! I don't matter where I am every Sim is the same! The top of the screen says 98% packet loss!! I have tried clearing my cache but It didn't seem to work. Just wondering if the problem is only ME?

Lag is SO bad lately (like, the last 30 days), i'm about ready to close up shop, sell my land and quit playing. seems like i spend more time being frustrated than enjoying the game.
and, of course, every time they 'upgrade' to a new viewer it gets progressively worse. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr _____________________

Which continent are you in? No 3 seems relatively lag free.

Test your ISP speed first.

I had a lot of lag two months ago, then my ISP fixed something and it basically went away. No more, or very little, rubber banding anymore. Do some speed tests to determine that your data rate is good first.
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ I'm on 256k wireless service. I get better than advertised. And I like it both ways. Last Result: Download Speed: 298 kbps (37.3 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 296 kbps (37 KB/sec transfer rate) Lag is mostly due to internet services rather than SL's servers. However, not receiving data between the co-location data centers is a different story. i.e. searching and INVENTORY LOSS. _____________________

I just logged in to receive the Rez Faux update, no issues at all for me. Login was quick, and moving about no problem. It is still early in the morning (I've been up all night translating an application, will prolly never learn to give myself realistic deadlines).
Lag is the very last thing I worry about when it comes to SL, though, but I am as curious as you as to why it has affected so many today. |

One time I slided the DISTANCE DRAW in the preferences panel to the maximum to take some pictures and forgot about it.
Next thing I knew it felt like I was having a very bad case of LAG. Packet loss was full red bar too. Then I reduced the DISTANCE DRAW to almost the minimum and it was like the most fast thing I've ever seen. I though WOW, what a difference... just from the DISTANCE DRAW preference. |

hmmmmmmmm
i have noticed that lately, i can see things from really far away that i was never able to see before. thank you. i'll try that. i have a bit of a silly question: there are 2 bars in the upper right corner. they go from green to yellow to red. wut do they each mean, and their subsequent colors. one thing i do know - when they are active, lag is horrendous! _____________________

I though WOW, what a difference... just from the DISTANCE DRAW preference. a draw distance of 512m would cover about 12 sims, lets say each sim has 4000 cubes with a different texture on each side and each texture is 128x128x24 (48KB). now if my math is right that comes out to a little over 13GB which on a 256kb/s line would take 5 days to download... |

Reduce your particle count to 100 or even 0, FOG to 2 and composite layers to 2, will make a difference.
