Is anyone else having serious problems when SL gets over 12k users online?

I have had to stop playing at night East Coast US time because I can't even walk around my house (even on my empty sim) anymore. If I get on in the morning, there's only 6-8k people on or so and it runs smoothly. Is this system truly scalable? I'm not sure about that given the degradation of usability after it reaches a certain threshold.

Wondering if others are having the same issues. Not to mention packet loss, which has been spiking to 60% for me at times

Same for me :(.

Tp'ing stops working at best, worst it hangs or fails and the only solution is relogging.
Changing clothes results in "pending attachment for this spot" about 1/3rd of the time to the point where I simply stopped changing accessories/hair/shoes during busy hours.
Rezzing anything frequently fails, or it takes up to 5 minutes before the prim(s) actually appear, same with taking to inventory.
Group IMs aren't received, IMs go to offline (happens during normal times as well, it's just far more rare), main chat shows out of order.
Logging in results in being invisible with no balance (happens regardless of grid attacks) until after about 5 minutes it finally comes through
Some textures refuse (including on clothing) to rez all the way and remain stuck at the blurry stage
Some prims refuse to rez no matter how much time passes (rather frustrating when trying to do a couple dance at a club)
Standing up or sitting down infrequently puts me at -200, when standing up whatever I was sitting on has a tendency to either catapult into the air or get stuck underground (but only on my screen, rightclicking it - assuming I can find it - puts it back where it's supposed to be)
Watching others sit they rotate in place first, then start the animation, and only 10 seconds later actually move to where the pose ball is located, watching them stand up makes them vanish for 5-10 seconds
Uploads can result in pictures that work fine for me, but when passed on to someone else they get missing from database

I'm sure I'm missing a lot of other things, but none of the above (with one or two exceptions) ever happens when there's a low load during the off-hours.

[Edited to add that none of this would actually bother me (well, less at least :)) if they at least acknowledged that there are significant problems with load and they're working on/thinking up a solution]

I would say so, yes.

Well, we have been enthusiastically assured that it is...

But, if you think about recent common experience then sadly it becomes quite clear that it is not.

Fortunately, attrition will help in this regard :)

Too many paid users is my theory. :)

As I write this the grid is down yet again....due to heavy load on the DB systems.

I am a total novice with regard to how the grid runs/works and stand to be corrected but even to me it seems obvious that if something is failing due to too many people trying to access or use it then the simple solution is to upgrade it or make it bigger/better?

These constant downtimes, restricted logins and stupid messages (every time we get more than 14k in world), stating that they are 'investigating the cause' are infuriating when the obvious (to me at least) answer is that you can't get 2pints of milk from a 1 pint pot.......buy a bigger pot for gods sake....we pay you enough (well most of us do).

And there is the nub of the problem. I have no issue with sl needing to grow and expand it's user base....that is a positive thing and can only benefit everyone in the long term....

I have no issue with users having free accounts even....quite a few of my good friends are on free accounts BUT I do have an issue with LL allowing free accounts to massively impact something I pay handsomely for.

Go ahead and open up to Tom Dick and Harriet for all I care but at least have the professionalism to ensure you have the mechanisms and systems in place beforehand to ensure that those of us who support you financially are not recieving a massively substandard product as a result.

It is getting so annoying and LL's cheerful acceptance of the current problems serves only to make the experience all the more frustrating.

Before the fanboys (and girls) start to have a go....I will be the first to cheer if LL addresses this problem so until they do....save your breath.

Yes, I've started to see many of the problems US users have been complaining about on these forums for a while - prims snapping back, textures not taking on very low-prim items, edit linked prim seeming broken again, teleports failing randomly, really bad prim drift ... It's all pretty good as long as I go online during euro-time afternoon or early evening, but gets steadily worse from there.

As of last night, the "what network bandwidth? I think I'll just ignore your setting and stream at 80kpbs" bug seems to be back too.

I got this last night too, around 2.00pm SLT. Just standing still didn't rez my hair .. or did it fall out with the repeated crashing and relogging?

Been considering upgrading to a paid account but Jeez - I wish it worked first.

Agree - in general, I fully support LL and will be the first to cheer loudly when this all gets fixed :D I do love SL and hope to play for a long time! I just don't think I can take one more night of showing up bald everywhere LOL

I get the same problems as the UK night wears on most nights now during the day (UK Time) it is very rare to have the same problems.

As to your last paragraph, i think that most Companies around the world have a problem with being Honest to there customers ;)
