i thought Id post here and thank the lindens for getting SL up and running within 24 hours , even though it was a sunday.

Not only did you find the problem but you resolved and removed it quickly.

Cheers..

yes it caused minor disruption , but thats life.

Maybe all the anticopybot spam on the grid played a part ?

It seems that every time a grid attack occurs I'm somewhere safe on a private sim completely oblivious to the whole thing :).

What worried me this time is that the effect of it was very noticeable even though I was far away from it. The other grid attacks disrupted all the same things that were going wrong now, but this one was supposidly contained very quickly and on a small scale while the others were really grid-wide and they were supposed to have all these counter-measures in place that reduced the load even during an attack now.

Grey goo supposidly stresses all the same systems all of us do (asset servers etc), just more so, and I'm just wondering if the performance last night is what we have to look forward to once there's 20000 of us online at the same time :(.

Doubt it. We had plenty of grey goo attacks and grid wide, before anyone ever heard of copybot and !quit messages.
It's just as reasonable to ponder whether this grid attack had any connection with a person or persons connected with abusing the copybot code, since the mentality of those who like to disrupt everyone else's use of the grid would be pretty much the same imo.
