hi, don't know why, but I am looking around to how to make custom avatars..
also I will like to know if the costumes people wears in SL are made with custom avatars or
the same way you make clothes..(tshirt...pants...)..
can anyone point me to the right howto/tutorial for this?

Thanks!

Not actually been there myself but I hear the Ivory Tower of Prims being suggested a lot to questions of this kind.

This thread might be a wee bit of help. Otherwise, all I can say is avatars are made with the sliders and textures and prims and animations. Read up in the building tips and texture tips forums. Also, I managed to pick up a box of free avatars somewhere (Dark Darma? Dharma? Island?). Examining how those were done has given me some insight and lots more ideas than I'll ever have time to achieve. Good luck!

There's lots of information there about customizing avatars.

You can create textures to put onto clothes you make in appearance editing mode (Right Click > Edit Appearance) useing PhotoShop, or GIMP 2.0, or any other editing programm. People also like making clothes (like shoes, hair, jewlery) out of prims. This is suggested to go to a building tutorial for (look in the classifieds).

the body shape is edited in the 'appearance' section
clothes and custom skins are created in photoshop (or something similar)
things such as body armour or hair is made with the 'build' function.
