I get a texture folder generated everytime I log in as well as other files in there that SL seems to spam me with. Anybody know what these are for and how I stop them from appearing?

What does it show in Preferences / Network tab as the "Disk Cache Location"?
The SL cache on my system puts a bunch of files with extensions like dsf, gz, and slc in the cache folder, and includes a folder called textures which has subfolders of 0, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, 8,9,a,b,c,d,f . Presumably those represent the first character of texture keys.
If your cache is set to My Documents then you could try clicking the reset button, which will put the cache back out of sight at its default location.
Anyone know if SL is smart enough to remove only SL cache files if other files are in the cache folder?

If you used the previous version of FirstLook, this would create its own cache away from the 'normal' viewer. The newer client viewer amalgimates the two. To make SL more stable, always defrag your HD regularily, the SL cache is very very messy and fragments at the drop of a hat, which slows down SL.
