The milestone I'm looking for: A stable, properly functioning grid.

(I know, in my dreams...sigh)

Darn it. I was hoping to get a picture with the concurrency at 40,000 + but this is close enough. Wow, it's still the highest I've seen so far. According to a post somewhere in this forum about LL's hardware, 100,000 users can be supported in world at this time. What kind of experience that would be is yet to be seen. lol

The grid seemed pretty stable and responsive to me today, even with 40,000 logged in. Much better than several weekends ago. I had no problem Teleporting or changing Avs.

Last night, I was able to fly my airship from Balance to Calleta (stopping for Tang and crackers at ANWR), and then today, at the height of the afternoon, I made another expedition from Balance to Anzere (but could not enter Anzere). I had almost no trouble.

...and there were 40,000 people staring at me...yikes!

/me wonders how long they were watching

The real problems seem to start a couple of hours after peak time (maybe peak at about 3 pm, gets real bad about 5 or 6?). Maybe the asset server falls further behind?

Pure marketing bullshit. I would fire anyone in my company spouting such nonsense, immediately and without hesitation.

Unless you were telling the people in your company to spout nonsense. Remember, it's easy to keep a straight face in cyberspace.

You guys may have already read this, but here is the thread containing information from an article on SL's hardware. It was done by Mitch Wagner and posted on March 5, 2007. I'm not sure if it's all true or not. Geez, i had to go 7 pages deep to find that thread; what a workout, lol.

Perhaps it isn't nonsense

The 100,000 concurrent users thing is theoretical, not practical.

In theory:
If everybody used Linden hair and clothes
If nobody wore any scripted prim attachments
If the number of scripts and their resource usage modest
If people didn't average 8-10k items in inventory
If per parcel prim counts never exceeded 50% capacity
on and on

In practice:
Reverse the points in theory, above.

I heard from a totally unreliable source that this number came from marketing and thet the programmers excreted a few rectilinear prims when the saw that.

Uhm... it was Joe Miller who said this. He's one of the vice presidents of LL.
