Casino Issue

So... today I was in a casino playing several games and winning... I did not receive my winnings. At least a dozen others that were there were experiencing the same thing. We each IM'd the casino owner explaining the predicament and let him know what machines we played and how much our winnings were.

So far, he has NOT responded back. However, he did send myself and the others a notecard explaining that due to "blah blah blah" we will not be receiving our winnings.

I can understand that... but NOT when it happened to so many of us. Mind you, this is a well known casino that has ALWAYS paid me before. This is the first issue I personally have had here. However, I have heard from 3 others in the last week that they had won huge 50k plus jackpots and were not paid. These people are now showing up in the casino and shouting out that the owner is a cheat and a thief. I shrugged them off until today.

Any suggestions?

Walk away?

Is the casino going under and we're suffering?

I'm just so surprised because like I said, I've been going to this place daily and have NEVER had an issue until now.

Unfortunately there is nothing more you can do but protest, but i could be wrong, their is no law governing these types of activities so filling out an abuse report will more than likely be ignored.
Join the others in the shouting and in no time this establishment and it's staff will be painted in a corner, I have heard of others attempting something similar to an SL version of the BBB, they might be able to counsel you better on your options:D Good luck!

When you gamble at casinos in Second Life, you're doing so entirely at your own risk. Linden Lab does not govern or regulate any "industry" inside of Second Life, gaming or otherwise. The only exception to this that I am aware of is the practice of operating "pyramid" schemes. It would be interesting to know what the note card actually says, as "blah blah blah" doesn't really help us come up with any creative solution for you. In the end, I think that's why they call it gambling. You have no idea what the scripts that drive those machines are actually doing. You have no idea if the proprieter of the gambling establishment has sufficient funds to back each and every bet. (I doubt most of them do). As in real life, casinos are in it for profit. Unlike real life, casinos in Second Life have no obligation to refrain from ripping you off, and you have no means of remediation should they do so.

I'm not sure, knowing a few people who have won $50,000L sounds like pretty good odds.

Mind you if you don't actually get the money.....

I'd just walk away. How can you possibly trust a casino that doesn't pay out? I doubt any amount of complaining will help you get your money back. The best you can do is warn others away which will possibly put the owner out of business. While you can't name names here. Go to the other second life forums and let people know.

casino owners in sl are supposed to keep a "cash buffer" to pay for the winnings, it looks like the owner of this casino obviously hasn't prepared a big enough buffer, or is just greedy

Behind where I live in SL is a super-casino that appeared in recent weeks. It is a huge ugly structure that once caused sim-wide lag due to the number of people in it. Now, though, there are only ever 2 or 3 people in it. It's a sorry sight - empty machines and games. I clicked on 'about land' and found that there were over 50 residents banned from the place. Griefers or aggrieved, I wonder? Can't wait to see the place be pulled down!

I'll second that. My first day in SL, I was stupid and played the slots and lost my entire new account's grubstake in about an hour - that was before I knew how hard it was going to be to get those Lindens back.

I'm sure ive read another thread where a casino owner was complaining that his customers weren't getting their winnings paid out which he put down to server lag and packet loss. He said every time a machine tried to pay out he got an error saying 'stale transaction' or something like that. So maybe this guy is having technical difficulties rather than deliberately stiffing the patrons. Still, he should close the place down or make the machines inactive and not let people continue to play so there is no excuse really, and sending a note card rather than talking to his customers directly is just cowardly.

and for every one of those you know who Won, How many Lost, and How Much?
The Idea is to every now and then let some Rube have a Moderate to Big Win, it keeps the Punters coming back in hopes they will be Next.
Same theory in Vegas, that is why the Slots on the Ends of the Rows Pay Off slightly more often than the ones in the Middle, People See the Winners, and start shelling out.

And in Vegas THOSE are Professionally Manufactured, State Regulated Machines. You are Gambling on the equivalent of a Roulette Table Made in Some Guys Basement, and you are ASSUMING he's Honest.

I think P.T. Barnum was Being Inordinately Kind.
