Abandoned land

Why is it, when land is reverted to Gov. Linden because it's abandoned, the land becomes a junk yard? Why can't the land get set to remove all prims and set to not allow any objects in or created once it reverts?
Around some of my land there is abandoned land (and even some land that isnt but the owners haven't been in game for months and months) that is a dumping ground for trash. These places make the whole sim look bad, not to mention the scripts added within the trash adds so much to sim lag, a major issue.
I also would think the owners of ajoining properties should get first chance in buying this abandoned land, maybe an IM set and a deadline to buy it from Gov. Linden. Case in point, I bought a piece for the extra prims but it has a 16 sm section cut out that's owned by Gov. Linden. I should be able to buy that property, at least to complete that section. I already asked a Linden how told me to email someone, which I did, but that didn't get me anywhere as I never got an answer (typical I guess).

You'll get an answer - you might have to wait a few weeks, but eventually you'll get a response. Also email support requesting that they set auto-return on the abandoned land. Guy Linden is the one that's dealt with land issues in the past.

I know that when I've bought and sold land in the past, often the land permissions settings automatically change to allow anyone to do anything on the land, so this is probably happening when land gets abandoned to LL. In which case they have to manually reset it, which probably isn't the highest priority. But if you email support with the land coordinates, they'll do it evenually.
