Hi gang

I'm posting this here too because it doesn't seem to be getting many views down in Technical Help...

I have installed Smoothwall on an old PC I had lying around and I use that as a hub to protect my lappy from all the bad things out there... Only problem is now I can't log onto SL.

I can log in as far as "Waiting for region handshake" as the blue bar slides up... then I get a pop-up that says
"We're having trouble connecting. there may be a problem with your connection...etc" which is undoubtedly this Smoothwall.
It allows me to go to EDIT-PREFERENCES and if I look at the Network tab I see the port number is set at 13000.

So I went and stuck 13000 in my allowed ports in Smoothwall and nothing... so there must be some other jiggery-pokery I need to do.

Anyone any experience with Smoothwall?

Thanks in advance gang

I'm using Smoothwall. In order to get SL to work I had to allow 4 outgoing ranges under networking - outgoing.
12035:12036
12043
13000:13050
https(443)

Here is the Knowledge base article;
How do I configure my hardware firewall (such as a router)?
Hardware firewalls need to allow access on certain network ports. Second Life needs to connect to ports 443/TCP, 12035/UDP, 12036/UDP, 12043/TCP , and 13000-13050/UDP. You should configure your firewall to allow outbound traffic on those...

Edit: Had one port too many.
Edit again: Dang Smoothwall table is hard to read.

Hi Wayne
Thanks for helping here...

I've got 12035:12036 done but Smoothwall won't accept 13000:13050.. I get a small red cross under the "enabled" column...

Hmmm...not sure what the problem might be. My Smooothwall accepted that range without problem.

Hi Wayne

Sorted... I wasn't enabling the range for some reason (my idiocy most likely) but I'm now in world... Thanks a lot mate.
