Black bits on skins

I have come across a couple of female avatars that have got black streaks down their arms, on their ankles and sometimes their necks. has anyone else seen this, and is there a fix?

Rebaking doesn't seem to fix it, and it only seems to happen with some skins.

Happens with most skins on ALL seems if the texture isn't fully loaded I think.. maybe they weren't? Either that or just..not that well made =/

ZOMG they have blood poisoning! Off with her arm! :p Seriously, though, I think what you're talking about is where the front of the skin meets the texture for the back of the skin (like on the side of the neck, etc.) They could be really crappy skins, which I sort of doubt. It's possible that they never rezzed properly for your computer. Try clearing your cache, which will force your computer to take a new look at them next time you see the person.

There's a "blue/black/purple bands" skin bug as well, but that happens for someone on every skin they wear so it's probably not that one :).

If the skin is copy:
1) Take off all clothing (probably want to be somewhere private :p)
2) Left-click on the "corrupted" skin and Ctrl-C to copy it
3) Create a new folder (the point here is that you can tell the copy from the original so this is just one easy way to do that) and Ctrl-V to paste a copy of the skin into there
4) Wear a newbie skin (there's some in the library)
5) Edit / Preferences - Network - Clear Cache and close SL & relog
6) Rebake
7) Wear the *copy* of the skin, do another clear cache and relog
8) Rebake

Not all of the steps are always necessary, but going through the whole elaborate thing gives you the best chance of making it work :). If it works, delete the original skin and just wear the copy from then on.

And again, this isn't guaranteed to work but it does tend to fix odd corrupted skin issues often :). If the bands are there for every skin they wear, it won't do anything either since it's a whole other problem.

---

If it doesn't help, the next easiest thing is to simply try it on another puter since baking avie textures is done client-side so if it's a graphics card issue, another puter would likely tell you one way or the other.

Two forms I have seen. If it looks like they have bad seams down the outsides of the arms and legs, lengthwise, it's likely a texture baking issue. Rebaking might fix it, or just waiting longer to rez fully. Best bet is put on a couple other skins before going back to that one.

But just the other day I had one that looked like I was wearing black ankle bracelets and a black 'cleric's collar'. (black around the sides and back, open in front, and kind of sunk into the skin). Wtf??? I took off everything, and couldn't get rid of the black marks on my ankles and neck until I switched to a completely different avatar.

That happens to me sometimes with a couple of freebie skins I have. It's more noticable when I wear certain shapes than it is with others. My vote is on the seams not being quite matched up or the shading being off.

also happens when people don't pay attention to edges on made clothing items, and let color overlap sections for other parts... seen most often with gloves and socks

This is the exact condition i've seen. It's what we are looking for a fix for.

I have been trying to figure out shirts and I got black streaks.
I tried everything I got no clue how to fix it.
I have had few skins where you see lines where the neck line is.
I made them with slider. Didn't know how to fix this either.
I am bit curious too about this.

I've had this when changing from a small shape to a bigger shape, and either rebaking or changing my underwear has been the only solution. The person I was with last time it happened didn't have a clue what I was talking about, which makes me wonder if it's a client thing.

OMG, it's not just me, it'S an official bug! Do you know any more about that, some workaround except the obvious ones like clearing cache, rebaking etc?

I don't know of any workaround or fix for that one, sowwies :(.

I think I can probably dig up the names of 2 or 3 people who suffered from the same problem from my old Live Help logs though. If they still suffering from the problem (I hope not after all this time  ), at least you can collaborate, or if they did figure out a fix eventually they could help you better. If you do ever figure it out, please let me know as well :).

For one girl it would happen to her no matter what skin/shape/anything she was wearing in-world and no matter what puter/different video card she used, which led us to think it was some kind of odd account glitch rather than a client-side problem.

(Edited to add that I probably still have the snapshots I got sent from them as well, if I find them I'll drop them on you in-world so you can see if it looks like what you're suffering from :().

That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...

...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.
