Going from Premium to Basic - Charge?

I would have posted this in Linden Answers were it still "alive" but I'll rely on the related responses from those residents who've done this (recent experience would be best).

Considering the way things are going in SL *in my experience* I'm seriously considering liquidating all my assets (yard sale, land sale, etc) and going from premium to basic/free so I can continue to visit with friends on a somewhat regular basis, but avoid the monthly charges I'm incurring.

I'd recalled seeing there is a 9.99 charge to cancel your account outright, but I don't recall if there is a charge associated with going from premium to basic/remaining a resident but with no monthly charges.

I looked in the knowledge base and all I saw in terms of premium > basic is that I would incur no monthly fee. I don't, however, see anything regarding a one-time charge to drop from premium to basic.

Coco wrote a response to me on the blog stating that this was not the case, that a Linden had been quoted as such, but I'm curious if anyone has gone from premium to basic in recent past and if they did, was there a charge?

Thanks for any relevant info or direction.

My alt went from premium down to basic in November and there was no charge.

If you owe tier for anything beyond the 512m² then you will still get billed for that in the next cycle since tier is backdated... I think (I always get confused about that one :o).

Thanks!

I never remember which goes which way either. But my thoughts are that I would leave myself ample time to prepare. Have something along the lines of a 1 month yard sale followed by 1 month where the land is for sale.

I don't relish the idea of not having land but the lag, TP issues, and just blatant lack of respect for my fellow residents is enough for me to be fed up. It's a cool game. It *is* cutting edge. But growing pains (imo) shouldn't be as prevalent this far post-beta.

Again, thanks! Now I know what my game-plan is :D

Renting land is also a very valid option.

If I remember correctly, you pay for tier after you use it, but you pay your membership before. So, if you pay your monthly fee for Feb and you sell all your land and downgrade during that month, come March, you will just pay your land use fee and then be downgraded to basic. So, once your land sells, downgrade and then it will take effect once your current plan is finished.

Actually, ages ago, I broke my account back down to basic due to RL issues. Didn't get charged for it then, so I highly doubt you'd be charged for it now.
