When I first asked, SL informed me that my Intell graphices card is not compatible. Thats fine, but does anyone know how I can improve it? for instance, when I edit appearance, the graphics go wild, flipping around to the point where I cant see what I'm doing at all; I have no idea what my shirt looks like. Are there any tricks to get around this? or just improving a little? I can relog , but that doesnt alwasy work. If you know of any tricks, preference changes, or whatever I can do, I'd greatly appreciate. thanx ppl

Sugar,
What you need to do is to buy a compatable graphics card, and plug your monitor into that, rather than into the incompatable graphics adapter that your system came with. Nothing will turn an incompatable card (Like the Intel cards) into one that is OK. You need to replace it. An incompatable card may kinda, sorta, work... sometimes... but it will ALWAYS have problems with SL. That is why they are listed as incompatable.
Most desktop systems with enough power to run SL will have several expansion slots, at least one of which is a "PCI Slot", designed for graphics adapters. Check the owners manual for your computer for locating that slot on your system, and verifying what type it is. Then purchase and install the new card, following the card maker's instructions. It will probably cost you $100 USD or more, depending on the card. Go for the best card that you can afford, with as much on-card video memory as possible.
Laptops and some very inexpensive desktop systems (Like the Mac Mini) usually do not have upgradable video cards. Your only alternative there is to get a new computer for playing SL on.

I have a Mini as well. But it's the worst system I would ever concieve of playing SL on. I get something like 2 FPS in a furry avatar, maybe 6 in a plain Ruth Human form, unless in a very high skybox. And texture loading is pathetic.

I actually get that "incompatable video card" error when I reinstall my OS.. before I update the AGP and ATI drivers. once I've done that, it's happy

It is technically not compatible, but now works fine. I had to download an updated driver and tweak the setting a bit - I advise doing this. Remember that every PC is different, but if you go to advanced under settings and just play about with them, I'm sure you will be able to get it to work. Mine now works flawlessly. What used to happen is that the textures would cycle, so i would see things like my face appearing on my own ass, or the floor appearing on one of the walls, or my clothing would go stripey and spotted etc. What you describe sounds very similler. Editing did the same thing, the textures that appear in the boxes next to the sliders in the edit menu would go all crazy like.

. I have to disagree. Read my last post - my intel card now works flawlessly with after a new driver download and a bit of tweaking on the advanced settings. It performs consistently with no errors.
