Hi all,
I am constructing a Skyhome rental business on a private island sim, and I am having problems finding an integrated rental system and teleport system. There are many rental systems out there, and many teleport systems, but I cannot find an integrated system. Let me explain what I want:
Prospective tenants read my ad and teleport into my Central Hub, located in the middle of my Island sim. There they can see which properties are vacant and which are taken. If they wish to see a vacant property they can teleport there to have a look around. So far so good.
While they are viewing a property I do not want other viewers to teleport there as well, until the first viewer has finished and left. So I need the teleporter to that property to be disabled while someone is viewing. When the first person returns, the teleporter to that property is enabled again, and if they tp directly out of the property then a time-out applies (say, after 10mins) and the teleporter is enabled again.
If the viewer likes the property and immediately pays the rental cube some rent, then back at the Hub, the property goes from Vacant to Occupied automatically, and the associated teleporter also is disabled. The reverse of this should also happen once a tenant stops paying rent.
Also bear in mind, that as this is a Skyhome rental sim, where the Skyhomes are located between 300m high and 750m high, and a resident beach area on the ground, the teleporter must be capable of teleporting anywhere within the sim, and not be restricted, like many are, to just 300m in any direction.
Has anyone seen such an integrated rental/teleporter system?
Many thanks

I've not seen anything like that. Sounds neat for a Landlord to have though. I'd say to look to hire a scriptor/builder that does custom work. Might be expensive, but the creator might also do a profit split with you if the items sell well afterwards.
I'm sure there are many out there to do such. Some searching in Classifieds and such will be needed. I know Moopf does such type work. You could start with his buisiness to begin your search.

Lestat's Rental system does exactly that. It shows you the plot #, and allows for you to set direct teleports to that area. I have 3 of his boards and they all work flawlessly.

From: HolyHell Cassell Lestat's Rental system does exactly that. It shows you the plot #, and allows for you to set direct teleports to that area. I have 3 of his boards and they all work flawlessly. Thanks for the reply. However, I went to their store, and Lestat was there in person. He confirmed that his system was focussed on malls and stores within them, rather than the residential rental market, and that he would not be releasing a version for the residential rental market anytime soon. But thanks anyway. Rock

I had sort of investigated this idea myself, the problem is the teleporting distance limitations. The furthest I know a sit-based teleporter can work is 512m (Argent Stonecutter's) so you are limited by that. When I was toying with the idea, I was figuring on a ground level arrival station since most of the sim was ground based, with prospective tenents teleporting from there to a mid-sim hub at around 300m. From the hub, there would be all the options you describe, with houses scattered starting at 400m and running all the way up to around 700m. Rented properites would be unavailble for teleport, etc.. What I think is not going to be possible is to limit one couple/person at a time to view the available units.
Nothing like this system exists at present (to my knowledge) and it will likely be a custom scripting job. Your best bet would be take the idea over to the scripting forum and see who bites.

Search for The Omega Concern. They have a Teleport system that will mark a destination as "busy" until the person there returns. Sounds like what you are looking for.

That might take you some work.
The easy way: do it yourself by saying if it is rented or not
The hard way: pay someone 1-2kL to make a script and oblefts that do just that.
O_o
I go with the easy way

You just described my rental system As another poster said, it is not easy to solve this problem. My system integrates the signs that say if an apartment is available, rented, or closed; integrated teleporters (access by renters and their guests - renters can administer their own access list too), and other cool points of integration. The system partially broke after the last update, so I had to rewite parts of it (memory issues), but teleporters have been a persistent problem (they either 'forget' who is allowed to access them, or the scripts crash - very hard problem to track down). The rental scripts are solid though. I may eventually sell this system, but it sounds like you need more customization (based on your scenario). I am a scripter for hire and SL Developer with several happy customers. I could change my system for you to reduce your cost; however, the scripts will be closed source (no modify) since I will eventually resell it. IM me in-world if you are interested. By the way - if you want to shop aroun for scripting services, the SL Developer's page is a great start: http://secondlife.com/developers/consultants.phpRegards, -2fast

Regardless of Lestat's reply, I use his system on both SkyBeam and Scepterd Isle for the tier payments there. I'm not sure what you expect of the system for residential that it doesn't do, but it suits me perfectly. I also, of course, use it for the shops in Pando Square, which is how I came enamored of it.
The tp portion of the system, however, does work only within the normal sit distance.
I'd be interested in an in game IM about why its not considered suitable for residential rentals.

I've been working on my own sit-based teleporter, and just finished it this morning. At the moment it's not designed for a rental-based system but it is designed to be easily configured by the owner. I was surprised to read about a distance limit on sit-based teleporters. I have tested mine to the limits I could and the furthest teleport I managed was 789 meters. That was going from <255,255,58> (ground level in my sim is 5 to <4,4,760>. I would expect if I was in a sea-level sim I could add another 58 meters to the distance. The only thing I haven't tried yet is to cross sim borders with it. -Atashi
