I just started and created an Avatar on the Orientation Island. I see other people's avatar's around me but I cant see my own. I can move and interact but I cant see any setting that allows me to see my own avatar. I can't seem to do much about clothes or modifing my appearance without see the avatar. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to SL Hammal!
I believe there is a bug that causes you to be invisible to yourself and can only see things that are attached to you. But others will be able to see you fine.
And no, you will not be allowed to edit your appearance until you've materialized fully on your screen.
When this happens to me, I simply re-log.
Hopefully someone will come along with a better suggestion.
Best, ~Ari

Well three quick answers to that one. 1) if you have mouse with a wheel roll it back and the "camera" will go back and you will see yourself (rear) at a distance 2) Right click yourself and select appearance and you will find you zoom in on yourself and will be able to edit various parts 3) There is a software fault and you are "there" in spirit but not in virtual reality
