I have tried to call the support no luck, After ten minutes i get sent to leave a voice message, (grrrrr). I have sent emails to the support team so far i got a generic answer about graphic cards updates, (ugh!) I miss my SL life, this has been going on for four days and it SUCKS!!! Please Help if you have any suggestions, I am on the verge of tears here

I did not have any problems before the last update.I have been playing SL for almost six months with only minor problems. I am currently using an Apple iMac G5,which is running OS X. My graphic card is an Ati Radon X600Pro. The current problem i am having seems to be something very similar to what other were experiencing when i read comments on http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/03/27/second-life-1140-viewer-released .
First when i log on to Second Life I received a message that states" Your clothing is still downloading. You can use the world normally, and other users will see you correctly". I am usually the ruth avatar and am all grey. Second, I cant Teleport anywhere I receive a message that states unable to complete teleport in timely fashion. Last after three to five minutes I will usually get a message that states Unable to load gesture, then my Second Life crashes. I have found that if i travel to another area by flying i get some of my avatars clothing back, the same if i use rebake textures. But nothing stops the crash. I have tried to uninstall Second Life, Re install Second Life. i downloaded the old 13.?? version that was available, but that hasn't helped. I only get a message that states i need to update to the newer version, grrr. I have cleared my cashe, re set my setting as in the linden lab help guide. All have had no positive outcome to my playing. Please help. I am suffering from withdraws and am starting to wonder why i pay over 30 dollars a month for problems like this.

First question, have you installed the latest drivers for your video card ? Hope this helps.

Have you looked/posted in the Mac forum? I think there are other Mac users in the same boat.

Speaking as a G5 User (Imac with the ATI600, 2 Gig Ram pre-iSight) I've had a number of issues over the last 4 months in SL. Some things to check and that have worked for me.

-Make sure you're at 10.4.9, Update Java
-Kill any Processes by using Kill App (I've noticed the java update tool really reaks havoc on my G5 when SL is going, "Preview" also burns away resources like mad.
-Make sure bandwith numbers haven't gone up in SL preferences (I set mine to 350 but it goes up on it's own now and then and brings me to a crawl in world.)
- Go through all the graphic options in game, the x600pro is suuuuuuch a POS.
- Completely delete your SL app in /applications and get rid the Library, re-install after a full re-boot.

That is unfortunately the extent of my knowledge but maybe it'll work, otherwise read around the Mac forums, they will most def. have more mac smarts then I and more ideas. GL to you.

Actually, turning your bandwidth down low has an adverse effect. When your client makes a request for inventory, clothing etc from the SL servers and your bandwidth is to low to receive the information, your request will time out leaving you 'ruthed' and for the most part greyed out.

Your bandwidth setting should be 2/3rds of your connection speed (i.e. 1.5mb connection - 1000kbps, upto the maximum of 1500kbps SL setting) the client will automatically throttle the bandwidth to suit. Once you are 'normal' turn the setting down to 1/2 and leave it there, unless you wish to enjoy music and movies in game, again set this to 2/3rds, which will leave some bandwidth for the stream delivery. Note: the Client does not stream movies/music direct, it uses a api call to the OS to do this direct from the source, and renders/plays the stream once cached.

One important thing about caches, make them as big as you can afford on your hard disc, and always, always defrag your hard disc daily. At least once a week, delete the cache and reload it after a cold reboot. The client's method of indexing the cache is 'frail' and it can corrupt and loose information, that so often is the cause of crashes.

Turning down Particles to less than 150 in preferences, and composite layers to 2, will help most peoples settings, draw distance to 96, fog to 2, again makes it easier for the Client to render the scenes. Think about all the prims and scripted accessories, including the HUDs people use these days, the impact on the sim server when you TP into a place, can have an enormous surge on that server and the other clients already there, having to deal with the information flow.

There are two issues with the nature of the game that effect everyone in SL. When you arrive on a sim, you have to upload all the elements about your avatar to the server for distribution to all the other avatars clients present, including the neighbouring sims that are within draw distance, your upload rate is normally between 64-512kbps, and you have to receive the information about the sim (buildings, textures, scripts, lighting effects) and from the other avatars present, including those in neighbouring sims within draw distance. Add to that, heavily primed hair and 'other' accessories, poofers, lighting effects, bling (particles) and your bandwidth/client has a lot to cope with.

Before you TP somewhere, try reducing the amount of prims/scripts/bling/HUDs etc you are using and you might find you have less problems.
