I am new but the only thing I have seen anyone making money at is if they are skilled scripter, builder, clothing, skin maker, land baron, renting property out or Escort. The only jobs for nonskilled players is camping which doesn't pay very well and causes host of issues with lag and the fellow neighborhood. I made 500L from a friend selling my own textures over 20 of them without full permissions but that was hit and miss. I am personally not expecting to make any money in this game especially being new.

You could do a search on freeplays, an occasional offer at some casinos where the machines run free although lowered winnings than paid stakes. When I was brand new someone offered me a job to just hang around their shop! Ask people. Someone might have an opening for a dancer or security or something.

The only way to make "fast cash" in SL is to buy some $L.

It's doubtful that wearing a donation pot around your neck is really going to bring in "fast cash".

Simple answer? YOU CAN'T. SL is not a get-rich-quick scheme. If that is what you think SL is, log off and look elsewhere. Nothing of any value can be earned here without talent, hard work and effort.

Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Hm if you are going to walk around with a "donations" necklace, you should probably find some freebie shields and anti-weapons devices, because you'll be quite a delightful target.
But seriously, to make money in SL as in RL you need to find something that other people will want to give you money for: goods or services. Since it is free to make things in SL, and there are sandboxes where you can go to make things, and plenty of places where you can rent vendor space, and free vendor scripts available in the library here of at the LSL wiki or Yadni's Junkyard ~ well, rather than wandering around hoping people will give you money, spend your time making stuff that other people might want to buy.
It is tons and tons of fun to make stuff! If you missed the information at Help Island, then search in game for "tutorials" or create an alt just to spend time on Help Island with all the tutorials there.

I think they now have a duplicate Help Island for those who didn't spend time there at first.
I think you find this by putting "Help Island" in Search.

I like to think of making [alot of] money in sl is like bitting the lottery. all these users and only a tiny percentage making what many of us would consider decent money. I tend to think in the numbers its roughly 1 in 75k users.. but Im just guessing spinning hype is fun though and a good way to gte more and more users

I find it incredible that so many are coming to sl 'expecting' to make money , i originally joined the game to explore the potential of a 3d chat and environment - to meet interesting people and learn. Now im in the lucky position of having a business in sl and being able to earn cash but this has taken me over 2 years to get to such a postion - i guess a lot of far more talented people than me get there quicker but it certainly wasnt the reason i joined sl and I certainly never expected to be 'given' cash. hey back in those days people had to keep their newbie skins for far longer than a couple of days! LOL

Several Months
11-29-2006 16:24
I came into SL to check out how they implemented some things - didn't expect to spend more than a few hours going "ah-so, now I see".
Made some great friends playing around in sandboxes, gained some rudimentary building knowledge there, rented a small spot of land to practice building and made myself a basic box-type house.
Stipends didn't cover my rent at the time, so I would often visit Ivory Tower of Prims and grab a few tutorial notecards. I'd take these notes to a club that had games and dancepads that paid a few Ls and I'd read while earning. Then I realized that I could make even more Ls playing the games. Club Extreme is a good place for this now-a-days.
One day I built something, and someone told me it was cool and that I should try to sell it. So I changed my house into a store. I was surprised when my "product" began selling and soon I was able to easily cover rent and still have some skoots to spend as I pleased.
Now, I'm doing pretty well, as far as making $ in-game goes. And I'm pretty sure my "product" is among the best available in SL. But it took some months of learning, studying, reading, and observing as much as I could. I never had any intentions of making money over and above my small rent, but it's been a great supplement to my RL paycheck for quite a while now.
It took a few months, and a bit of frustration at times, but eventually it became profitable. Give yourself time to learn and find what you enjoy doing. If it were EASY to make money on your first few weeks, it would be no fun and the economy would be squat.
