Hi everyone,

Firstly, apologies if this isn't in the correct place, I'm still a bit new to all of this...

Me and a friend are wanting to set up a punk / alternative club in SL - at the moment, I am the only one able to purchase land (512sqm) and as we're trying to keep the cost down as much as possible - aswell as using this as our first attempt at building and running a place to see if we are at all successful, we don't really wish to go larger than 512. However my friend is contemplating also having a premium account so that she will also have 512sqm, I have asked a couple of people in SL if it is possible to then ajoin the two plots of land, and make one large club, is this true or not? and how difficult is it to go about setting that up.

We spent all day yesterday going to places to view the plots using the search - land sales feature, but really as we're not to sure on how to find areas etc that would suit and fit in with the theme of the genre of club - we would really appreicate some help and recommendations if anyone knows of somewhere which would be ideal.

We're also trying to keep the costs down as much as possible - after the initial payment of land, we don't want to be breaking the bank on how much we pay out for wkly/mnthly tiers.

If anyone doesn't mind taking some time out to help me, as i'm really confused with everything and not seeming to get anywhere, please IM me (tinker Hax) - i will be most appreciative.

I hope this makes sense ^^

:)

Thanks

If you both deed the land to group, you can join the two plots. Do read up on groups and group land first though.

Not sure if it's still around or not, but at one point there was a small bar called "The Elbow Room" that did very well traffic wise. Although you can't do much with a 512, I think with clubs it's more a matter of the company around you than the build and space.

I would agree, group land is the way to go to keep things in order, also you recieve an extra 10% if you go with group.

Also if you need any help with fitting the club out let me know in world, im sure I might be able to help with lighting etc.

YEP, When I started, I hung out with a group of friends in the neighborhood. We rarely went inside but always on the lawns. We chatted for hours and hours. We had a neighborhood association and it was some of the best times I had in SL.

that 1536sqm plot has been bought by carys for L$850,000 (no joke) so don`t expect it to be around to long...

this is a good point

Tiger Lily's was at its best when it was small and only on 1500 M.

the building was only 18 meters by 16 .. and was a blast.

It was how much participation the management could put in to keeping events running, not the size of the venue that was the hard part.

Roll with a beat up, worn out shack with graffitti on it to go with the old punk styles (before it got Avril Lavigned". Make it look good and detailed.

I bet you'd rake them in with that and a little advertisement...

as much as i hate shared propperty...

each buy an 512 plot
each deed the land to the group (make sure to check "owner makes contribution with deed)
join the 2 plots into an 1024sqm
who ever creates the group, makes the other owner aswell

but here`s a lil warning,
as both of u are owners of the group and land, at ANY time 1 can runoff with the land and assets placed on the land wich are group deeded (sell land to self at L$1)

also when building and deede to group, each object must be set to "next owner can modify/copy/(transfer) or else group objects won`t be allowed to be modded as the group is the new owner and uses the same permissions asif u would give it to another person

advice to not deed any money taking/giving objects to the group as that is being automaticly split, just do it manually

hope this helps abit more :)

there is no need to deed to group.
just set the land to the group and restrict building on each parcel to group members.

Small spaces can be a little frustrating because the camera position and angle are unpredictable when you're close to a wall. That's why cavernous spaces work well even though they tend to dwarf the inhabitants.

There are a lot of punk/alternative clubs in SL, and they're mainly, some always, empty. All the advertising in the SL world won't do much good if a thousand avatars visit the empty club one after another and leave before the next visitor. You'll definitely want to set up a "regulars" type group and advertise it prominently in the club, and send notices (but not too many notices). A schedule board helps too.

As a North American, I pretty much miss all the fun in SL anymore, because I don't log in until after 10pm and most clubs disperse around 9pm. I don't fully understand why SL time effective tracks Eastern Time in that regard, but it seems to be a fact to follow that 7pm is when folks "go out" in SL. I sort of hope I'm missing something :)

It's still there, and still does a Steady Traffic. The Elbow Room is Tiny, but proof posative that you Don't need a Lot of fancy shiney things to have a great club. You just need Good people.
