I created an account a while ago. I've come back to secondlife.com, and logged in to my account. I just can find any links to get me into the world. Is this intentional in some way? Am I missing something obvious? How the hell do I get there? Wouldn't a big red 'get into the world here' be a good idea?

You don't access the world from the website. You need to go to www.secondlife.com/downloads and download the appropriate client for your OS, run that, and that will get you in.

You could click on where it says Community at the top of this site, then scroll down to the bottom and on your left you should see an option for downloads. Choose the right one for your pc and you'll be on your way.

Thanks for letting me know. I suggest that there may be other newbies like me who return to the site and need a similar prompt. I find it surprising there isn't a prompt on the homepage.

Actually...

Actually, when you're signing up, the last page you'll see actually has a download link on it. It's just above the friend referral information. However, admittedly, I almost missed it, too.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a huge downloads button at the top of the page like most websites? lol I mean....the viewer is kind of important if you want to use Second Life. I suggested that in the blog once, but I think it was lost somewhere.

Good points, the download after sign-up was not as obvious as it should be. I had downloaded it before I actually signed up using the download link at the bottom of the sites pages... but that's me, a techie. Techie types will never have the problem of not knowing you have to download something, but if you want this game to catch with people that DO NOT live on their computer, the process needs to be made more obvious.

I remember having the same issue!

Yea I'm w/you Storm had the same issue (3 years ago now oi). Other MMO's I've been to load the client from the web page, and if that's not a "code-practical" option for SL, what about a lil bittin button on the front page?
Something along the lines of "I've d/l'd, I'd like to start my Second Life, what do I do now?" Clicking that button would then pop up a couple of options/suggestions such as (A) check that one has indeed d/l'd the client & installed it and that (B) the shortcut is the lil hand logo on the desktop or the (is it newview.exe?) file in the SL folder on their hard drive. Might take that number of registered users closer to the number of folks online in the last x # days. I suspect there's tons and tons of folks that register, d/l the client and never make it online at all, if only for this reason. Relatedly, I find it incredible that SL doesn't run a lil widget or whatever to check that the new prospective resident's compy is up to snuff. Don't most other MMO's check yer system before letting one go through the name selelction, billing etc.? I'd think that would also help. /steps off 2L soapbox _____________________
