Can you convert Lindens into real dollars?

I know that you can sell Lindens at the exchange for real US Dollars in your Second Life account, but can you then extract those US Dollars back to, for example, a paypal account? I hear about people making real money in second life, but have not figured out how to get my store profits from Lindens back to me rl pocket. Is there a way?

Yes. They can credit your paypal account, or mail you a check via snail mail for what impresses me as a rather small fee (though some will disagree with that assessment.) I do not know if they'll credit your credit card, since I've never tried that. Someone else here may know the answer to that one.

1. Go to https://secure-web0.secondlife.com/currency/sell.php to sell your L$ for US$. Do a "Market Sell" to sell immediately, or a "Limit Sell" to get a more favorable rate. But anything more favorable to you than L$265 to the US$ is probably not worth waiting for, as LL keeps the value of the L$ pretty stable by selling L$ themselves. Result: a US$ balance you can use to pay tier, purchase at auction parcels denominated in US$, or cash out. If you have a US$ balance, it will be used before LL taps into your preferred payment method.

2. To cash out some or all of your US$ balance--to process a credit--go to https://secure-web0.secondlife.com/account/process-credit.php. You can have LL send you a check for a US$10-15 fee, or credit your PayPal account for a US$1 fee. The published processing time is optimistic.

For a slightly more reliable paypal turnaround, you can also sell at www.SLExchange.com. The credit time is ususally 24-48 hours from the sale, to the credit in your paypal account. You'll pay a bit more in processing fees for the sale.. but it my experience, it's like MAYBE a buck on a $50 USD sale. I've run the numbers before, and frankly, if you have enough lindens to justify selling them off (more than 8000 L$) Then it's all about balancing "how soon" against "how much"...

the Lindex has an abysmal track record for reliable payouts. Take a look at the old "Linden Answers" forum for an example of the hundreds of complaints of "I still haven't received my money". Now I'm sure that many people have had error free, flawless transactions on the Lindex.. but I can tell you.. if it's a choice between trusting the harried employees at Linden Labs to get around to fixing it when my payment goes wrong, or trusting the team of people at SLExchange.com... when that's ALL they do over there... well my money, quite literally, is on SLX.

I can tell you my experience there. I've sold.. Gosh I think over $500 USD. Ususally in $50 segments. The sale happens instantly when you "sell at market"... just a few seconds. Then, withdrawing the money to paypal.. takes maybe 30 seconds to place. The actual transfer of funds will take place ususally within 18 hours. (I think they do it once a day, in bulk). Let's say 48 hours though, just to be safe. From Paypal.. transferring the money to my bank, takes about 3-5 business days. if I can Start the process on a Sunday, I can ususally have the money on the next Friday.

You can convert Linden dollars to Rl Dollars only if your name isnt a silly, cheap, attempt to be cute orgasm reference
