Nice new spam invite scam-

I log on to a group invite from a french business group. With all the notices, etc I click on I often dont pay attention to my "junk mail"

Anyway this group had a sign up fee for $1000L!

Luckily I hadnt paid attention and said no. But also dont remember the exact name of the inviter or the group.

Anyway just a word of warning to you all.

Has anyone else been spam invited to a pay to join group?

Does LL ask you again after you click "yes" to confirm? or is it easily to accidently pay?

Thanks for the warning Colette, so I guess there is an advantage to only being able to join 25 groups and being perpetually filled up after all? ;)

I don't know about the double confirmation, but I've been getting a lot of group invite scam spam too. Some job group kept sending me invites for a while there, where to join, one must pay 100L.

Yeah, wasn't looking for a job, and wasn't willing to pay 100L to look for a job. Don't bother inviting me into groups, folks. It's a sanity check policy that requires me to only join those that I have researched and then searched for.

I've received a few of those lately as well as some unsolicited landmarks.

I thought that if you were invited to a group you didn't have to pay the sign up fee?

Invasion of Privacy
03-27-2007 09:57
I think it's an invasion of privacy for a spammer to have access to the core log files of Second Life players that are connected to the server, to then send out mass mail/messages/invites to those Players.

I should not have to put up with an invite from someone I have not met, or someone that has not even been to my region -- to visually see me (know of my existence).

I dont know - It told me Id have to pay a fee

- but it wasnt detailed to the point If id been not paying attention, that Id have missed it.

Is no warning really, just the same text thats in the rest of a group invite notice.
