Hi there, Sorry about being in the wrong forum, but I can't get any info back from LL - yawn
A friend wants to buy a sim, and has seen one at the center of a group of 4.
It looks like this, a bit like a cross shape with a free one in the middle:
.....................RESERVED
RESERVED.....AVAILABLE....OWNED
.....................OWNED
Is it possible for my friend to buy or reserve the free one in the middle? They seem to be able to bid on it in the reservations auction, but I thought that you are unable to own one if it is surrounded by other sims that you do not own or adjacent to a sim that is owned by someone else. My friend really like that free one as it is next to a place we go to a lot.
Thank you for any advice.

I think he has to get permission from the surrounding owners in order to buy that one.

That is what I thought...
dunno though as I have not purchased a sim before, I have gone and looked at selecting one and if it is adjacent to owned land it says you can't but this one apparently is on the auction block or something and someone is bidding and ti si not the owner of the adjacent sims

Knowledge Base: From: someone
Can someone reserve a space next to me without my permission?
Linden Lab will not place another reservation next yours (no touching borders) unless you give your permission.
From: someone If the spot you want is next to a Region that's already there, please purchase a Region in an alternate location, then submit a support ticket stating:
* The coordinates for the spot your just purchased * The name of the Estate you want you new one next to * The side of the Estate you want your new one next to
If you do not own the Region that's already there, we need the current owner's permission as well (the current owner should submit a ticket stating that permission has been granted). Once we have all the information, we will edit the order to reflect the new spot. There is no charge for this change, provided that all this information is sent before your Region is delivered to you.

From: Ann Launay Knowledge Base: the example he has is space reserved space reserved space available space owned space owned space or 1 sim free to each side he can reserve that space without a problem and no one can interfear, yes he`ll be screwing with some 1 wanting to expand like done to me, but u can move without any additional costs when purchasing a new island lookup Salin and to the SE i`m blocked, he can do the same heh

He'd be sharing borders with two owned sims, which should be a no no without permission. I didn't get the impression there were any spaces to the sides (the OP said it was at the center of 4), but even if there were, he's still be sharing a border with one owned sim.

I think that's a bug though. I've noticed several inconsistencies in the Land Store recently. If I locate an island out in the middle of nowhere, with no nearby reservations, I CANNOT reserve a spot just north/south/east/west of that island, and the UI will explain that I can't build right next to someone else's region. If what you're describing is true, it's a bug and your friend might run into problems if he went ahead and ordered it.
Why would he want a space in the middle of 4 others anyway?

I interpreted his explanation to be:
space/reserved/space reserved/available/owned space/owned/space
That would mean he was sharing borders with two owned sims and two reserved ones, which should be a no-no without permission.

ty for the explanation from the knowledge base, I could not find that
that explains it for me, and helps put it into perspective
as to why my friend wants it I dunno none of my business to ask why, it is up to them why they want it or not
