Does anyone else see the difference between these two statements???

From the blog...
Concierge Townhall Transcript
Thursday, November 9th, 2006 at 6:33...

Zee Linden: "We will not raise the $195 if you continue to own your server throughout 2007 for all private island regions currently owned and bought now."

From the blog...
Private Island Pricing Commitments
Tuesday, November 14th, 2006 at 3:06...

Zee Linden: "as long as you continue to own your Island and its purchased at the grandfathered pricing, we will not raise your recurring fee at least throughout 2007."

If I am understanding what I am reading correctly; The first comment from Nov.9th implies that prices will never increase for people who own they're server "throughout 2007". In contrast, the second statement from Nov.14th explains that the fees are subject to change even if you own your Island "throughout 2007".

I wonder how many people ordered an island under the assumption that they're pricing structure would remain the same (forever), as long as they "own they're server throught 2007"?

I wonder how many of those same people who orderd sims under that pretense will never get a chance to read the new blog post before it's to late to cancel they're order?

Please feel free to flame the S**T out of me if I'm not interpreting/comparing these two statements correctly.

Might I suggest slowing down and choosing your words carefully.

Treacly, you are correct. They do not say the same thing at all.

The FAQ (not sure at what date they actually put that online) has always stated that prices won't be raised "until further notice" (quote from memory, not a verbatim one) though so that left little doubt that it wasn't a question of if but when.

The biggest problem with the island tier debacle is that a whole lot of the information is very fragmented. There's the blog posts, comments from Zee Linden in said posts, a FAQ, some hints and answers in the Linden Answers forums and two (I think?) town hall meeting transcripts. Half of it changes the details of previous announcements and not everyone even knows what all they need to check.

There's a question pending right now in LA, asking whether it's possible to get a refund on an already ordered but not yet delivered sim or not although I think I did see that addressed on one page or another :(.

Edited to add that that portion of the FAQ has since been altered as well apparently (Google's cache of http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=305 still has what I remember - copy/paste the URL in google, then click the cache link)

From: someone
Q: I already have an island that I pay USD$195 per month for, will that change?
A: No, until notified otherwise your fees for existing islands will remain the same.

That Q/A doesn't seem to be listed anymore in the current version though and seems to be replaced with:
From: someone
Q: I pay USD$195 per month for my island now; will I have to pay the higher monthly fees at some point?
A: Any islands charged at USD$195 now or on delivery, that continue to be owned by the same person will remain at that rate through 2007 at least.

They don't, but it's also an easy semantic slip made by two seperate people who might not be coordinating efforts, and would have been hard to catch in real-time. And isn't Zee a bean counter and not a PR rep?

...not that there's not a conspiracy.

I am certain ZLinden made both of these comments (assuming the transcript is accurate); Therefore it is not an easy semantic slip made by "two seperate people." Finally, if Z is only a bean counter...Maybe he should let the job of PR up to someone who will execute it properly. I'm not so sure he is used to having his customer base (us) pull so much weight as having such democratic "rule" over decision making. Where else is there so much debate over policy of a service you pay for?

Just my 2.5L

You know? I didn't read that very carefully. I definitely saw 'Robin'.

Fits in more with the conspiracy.

So LL feels that they can raise tier on existing island owners on a whim?

That kind of sucks. It definitely will make people less inclined to invest, knowing that prices can be jacked up at any time.
