in the create tool, there is this weed-like looking icon... once you've rezzed weeds, is there a way to select them or to return / delete them (assuming you do not know the user).

Guy Linden used to be in charge of weed removal. Try IMing him or the owner of said weeds. If they are not yours, or a member of your group were you have object return rights, you gotta live with them.

Just to clarify, these are NOT weeds that you personally rezzed? (If you did rez them, then you would be the owner of course, and can do with them as you please.)
And is this your land? If so, do they show up as belonging to "others" in your prim count, and can you return them using the About Land window? (All my land purchased also transferred ownership of objects like the weeds, so I don't know if returning is possible when ownership wasn't tranferred.)
Another thought... are you able to select them while in the edit window? If so, you might be able to see the owner, and even delete them. Again, not sure about that because I know the Linden trees and grasses have some special restrictions on them.
There was at least one person on this forum a couple months back who had a patch of "bug" weeds that were totally unselectable and undeletable (I verified it myself). He never did tell us what he eventually did about them, but I think the only answers were (a) cover them up, or (b) get a Linden to try and fix them (like Ray said).
