Greeters & proximity...

A neighbour has a shop greeter on her parcel. Thing is, it's "range" seems to include a lot of my parcel - so she's getting who's visiting my space.

I don't especially care about that myself. I slightly care about the green spam from the greeter, but what I do care about is that some of my visitors might not be entirely happy. The neighbour says that there's no proximity or footprint feature to the greeter - is there any way we can fix it so it only greets for her parcel, and not about 30% of mine too?

Find a stout tree, round up a posy of your finest friends, braid a stiff rope and go look for the owner of these blasted lagg hogging, camera bouncing, spamming <takes meds> maybe ask them to kindly move it?

Proximity detection by script can be limited to an arc. If she wrote the script herself ask her to adjust it and to position it on her property to minimize any coverage of your land.

You could also get one of the freebie guns and just blast the darn thing out of the sim. :D

I tried a proximity sensor at first for greeting people to my store, but switched to a volume detect because that works much better. Maybe suggest that to her; instead of emitting a message whenever someone gets within a certain distance, I put an invisible tripwire across the door and it emits a welcome message whenever someone walks through. If you want the script for that, IM me and I'd be happy to send it. It's just one function call.

Greeter scripts and so on can incorporate a function which checks whether the person is over your land, as well. (Appropriately enough, the function is called llOverMyLand.)

That won't work in rentals without a covenant though, unless they deed the object to the group that owns the land.

Volume-detect greeters are indeed more efficient and don't annoy people so much. They can just be put at the entrance to shops.

Thanks all, I'll make this a proposal.

Well, except for the bit about the Hanging Tree. Someone might turn up in a Clint Eastwood av...

Hi there neighbour :)
Your post reminded me of a thread a few weeks back about drama in SL.
OP (of that thread!) was interested in getting a drama group together to perform within SL. Made kinda sense, there being so many amphitheatres in-world but stirred up a wonderful vision of lots of us sitting at computers around the world, playing their avatars to play characters LOL

Don't even think of going there. I ended up half-writing the SL transgender version of "Day-oh!" last week. I'll leave the lyrics as an exercise for the reader...
